Job summary

Metalwerks in Malaysia seeks a Mechanical Engineer to design, develop, and refine sheet metal components and assemblies for safety-critical applications. You will collaborate with production, quality, and client-facing teams to turn requirements into manufacturable, compliant, and cost-efficient designs.

You will apply CAD tools, support DFM and tolerancing, select materials, and ensure designs meet safety and industry standards while contributing to continuous improvement across the fabrication

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 1+ years of experience in mechanical design, ideally within sheet metal fabrication or OEM manufacturing.
• Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar).
• Solid understanding of sheet metal fabrication processes.
• Familiarity with GD&T, tolerancing, and manufacturing drawing standards.
• Knowledge of relevant safety/regulatory standards is a plus (UL, IEC, etc.).
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Good communication skills across engineering, production, and client teams.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop sheet metal parts, enclosures, brackets, and custom assemblies using CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or equivalent)
• Create and review DFM recommendations for laser cutting, CNC punching, bending, and welding processes
• Prepare detailed technical drawings, BOMs, and specifications for production
• Collaborate with clients and internal teams to translate requirements into engineering solutions that meet safety and regulatory standards
• Support tolerance analysis, material selection, and finish specifications
• Troubleshoot design and production issues with fabrication teams
• Ensure designs comply with relevant industry, safety, and quality standards
• Support new product development and continuous improvement initiatives
