Job summary

Jora Malaysia is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to design and develop mechanical assemblies, frames, jigs and automation equipment using 3D CAD. You will integrate pneumatic, hydraulic, and electro-mechanical systems, collaborating with electrical/software teams to ensure successful project delivery.

The role requires several years of experience in mechanical design, GD&T, and manufacturing processes, with strong analytical and teamwork skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required in mechanical engineering or related field.
  • Several years of experience in mechanical design and automation equipment.
  • Proficient in 2D/3D CAD software (Inventor, SolidEdge, AutoCAD, Catia).
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, machine elements, GD&T, drawings and tolerancing.
  • Experience with engineering analysis, material selection and simulation tools.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes (machining, welding, casting, sheet metal, injection moulding, assembly).
  • Knowledge of automation, robotics, PLCs, motion control, pneumatics, hydraulics, electromechanical systems.
  • Experience with BOMs, assembly instructions, manuals, APQP, IATF 16949, FMEA, Control Plan, root cause analysis.
  • Knowledge of ISO cleanroom and ESD practices.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, teamwork, and project coordination skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical assemblies, frames, linkages, jigs, fixtures, guards, housings, and automation equipment using 3D CAD.
  • Develop mechanical integration for pneumatic, hydraulic and electro-mechanical systems including actuators, conveyors, bearings, guides, fasteners, and pick-and-place systems.
  • Collaborate with electrical, software, controls, manufacturing and project teams to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Perform engineering analysis including load, stress, deflection, vibration and dynamic calculations.
  • Lead or participate in design reviews, prototype development, testing and validation.
  • Support continuous improvement of automation systems to improve speed, accuracy, reliability and production efficiency.
  • Ensure designs comply with safety, quality, regulatory, ESD and CE/ISO/DIN/ANSI standards.
  • Conduct or support physical testing to verify performance and durability.
  • Prepare and maintain BOMs, assembly instructions, manuals, drawings and change documentation.
  • Analyze and resolve mechanical design issues during development, testing and production.
  • Provide input for project cost estimation and timeline planning.
  • Maintain 5S cleanliness in the workplace and report incidents.
  • Support safe working practices.
  • Use Microsoft Office and drafting software such as AutoCAD, Inventor and SolidWorks.

  • Ensure workplace cleanliness and compliance with 5S practices.
  • Support safe working practices by reporting incidents, near misses, and unsafe procedures.
  • Use Microsoft Office and technical drafting software such as AutoCAD, Inventor, and SolidWorks.
