Job summary

VAT Vakuumventile AG in Malaysia seeks a Mechanical Design Engineer for the Vulcanization Tooling Design section. You will design, develop, qualify and continuously improve vulcanization molds and related tooling, ensuring manufacturability, cost-effectiveness and tooling lifecycle management.

You will collaborate with Process, Production, Industrial Engineering and external vendors to support NPI, ramp‑up and mass production, delivering robust molds that meet quality and safety standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in mechanical/manufacturing/mechatronics or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical design, tooling or automation equipment.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD systems (TopSolid, SolidWorks).
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management; ability to manage multiple projects.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and optimize vulcanization molds and related tools/fixtures/equipment to support stable, safe, and repeatable manufacturing processes.
  • Develop detailed mechanical designs based on requirements, vulcanization process, equipment limitations, and manufacturing requirements.
  • Perform detailed 3D modeling and 2D drafting, including material selection, GD&T, surface finish and inspection requirements.
  • Apply DFM principles to ensure molds and tooling are practical to fabricate, assemble, maintain, inspect, and modify.
  • Support NPI and process industrialization by providing mold design reviews, technical specifications, and tooling readiness.
