Job summary

AIA Digital+ is seeking a seasoned Backup Operations Manager to oversee the day-to-day backup operations and the storage infrastructure across the organization in Malaysia. You will manage IBM TSM, VTL, and DSI, ensuring robust backup, recovery, and DR capabilities while aligning with business needs.

With 7+ years in the field and at least 3 in a managerial capacity, you will lead vendor relationships, monitor performance, and drive cost-efficient improvements in a dynamic technology environment.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of relevant experience, including at least 3 years in a managerial role with regional coverage.
• Hands-on experience with position-related technical components.
• Equivalent combination of qualifications and relevant experience.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day backup operations across the organization.
• Manage and optimise backup tools and technologies (IBM TSM, VTL, DSI).
• Serve as SME for enterprise data backup solutions and vendor relationships.
• Implement robust backup, recovery and disaster recovery processes.
• Monitor performance, utilization and incidents, and optimize for cost and efficiency.
• Ensure security and compliance with organisational policies and regulatory requirements.
• Manage related budget and resource allocation to meet timelines.

Position Objective

With respect to multiple technology knowledge

• Ensures IT service availability and minimises the AIA’s business impact of IT service outages through the effective management.
• Contributes to the improvement of user satisfaction with IT services by ensuring that the arrangements remain aligned with business needs and priorities and fit for purpose.
• Improves the overall technical performance as measured by the technology related KPIs and SLAs (utilisation, availability, response times etc.) year on year

Job Responsibilities

Backup Operations Management

• Oversee the day-to-day operations of data backup services, ensuring timely and accurate backups across the organization.
• Manage and optimise backup tools and technologies, including but not limited to IBM TSM, VTL, DSI, and other enterprise-grade solutions.

Storge Infrastructure Management

• Oversee the deployment, configuration, and maintenance of on-premise data backup systems.
• Ensure optimal performance, availability, and capacity of data backup infrastructure.
• Manage lifecycle, including upgrades, migrations, and decommissioning of legacy systems.

Vendor and Technology Expertise

• Serve as the subject matter expert for enterprise data backup solution such as IBM TSM / VTL, DSI.
• Manage relationships with vendors, negotiate contracts, and oversee procurement of hardware and software.
• Stay updated on the latest advancements in technologies and evaluate their applicability to the organization.

Disaster Recovery and Data Protection

• Implement robust backup, recovery, and disaster recovery solutions for data backup systems.
• Ensure compliance with data protection regulations and industry best practices.
• Conduct regular testing and audits of disaster recovery processes.

Performance Monitoring and Optimization

• Monitor data backup system performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement optimisation strategies.
• Generate and analyse reports on utilisation, performance, and incidents.
• Proactively recommend improvements to enhance system efficiency and reduce costs.

Security and Compliance

• Collaborate with security team to ensure systems are secure and compliant with organisational policies and regulatory requirements.
• Implement access controls, encryption, and other security measures to protect sensitive data.

Budget & Resource Management

• Manage related budget.
• Allocate resources effectively to meet project deadline and organisational goals

Job Requirements

• 7+ years of relevant experience in which at least 3 years in managerial position with regional coverage.
• Hands on experience on position related technical components.
• An equivalent combination of qualifications and relevant experience.

Bachelor’s degree holder of university on Information Technology or related discipline

Technical Skills

• Deep knowledge of data backup solutions.
• Familiarity with backup management tools and software
• Strong understanding of data protection, backup, and disaster recovery solutions.
• Experience with cloud-based backup solutions and hybrid environments is a plus
