Job summary

The Great Eastern Life Assurance Company Limited in Kuala Lumpur seeks an experienced underwriting supervisor to provide underwriting support across life, accident & health, and long-term care proposals. You will analyze medical records, update requirements, and countersign junior underwriters' decisions.

• Degree with at least 5 years' underwriting experience in Life, Accident and Health is required or considered with relevant certification.

Job description

You are required to provide underwriting support for all product lines in New Business Underwriting. You will assess applications for life, accident & health, and long-term care proposals, including analyzing medical records & updating requirements and decisions into source system, in compliance with underwriting guidelines & regulatory requirements. You will lead a team of junior underwriters, providing guidance and countersigning their work.

Key responsibilities

Assess applications for life, accident & health, and long-term care proposals, including analyzing medical records & updating requirements and decisions into source system, in compliance with underwriting guidelines & regulatory requirements

Lead a team of junior underwriters, providing guidance and countersigning their work

Ensure all applications are processed and followed up in accordance with stipulated service level agreement

Provide advice on preliminary underwriting enquiry and case discussion with financial representatives

Provide underwriting advice & support for financial representatives and agency business development managers through e-booking, emails and phone calls

Communicate underwriting decisions clearly to the financial representatives

Review underwriting guidelines & work processes to support business operations

Take accountability in considering business and regulatory compliance risks and take appropriate steps to mitigate the risks

Maintain awareness of industry trends on regulatory compliance, emerging threats and technologies

Highlight potential concerns and risks and proactively share best risk management practices

About you

Degree with at least 5 years' experience in underwriting Life, Accident and Health risks

Non-degree holders who have relevant experience or certification in underwriting may be considered

Good interpersonal skills, customer service orientated & meticulous

Good team player with strong analytical skills & ability to work under pressure

High level of integrity, takes accountability of work and good attitude over teamwork

Takes initiative to improve current state of things and adaptable to embrace new changes
