Job summary

Le Meridien Kota Kinabalu seeks an experienced Maintenance Manager to lead our engineering team in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. You will oversee maintenance and repair of building systems, mechanical equipment and facilities to ensure optimal operations and guest experience.

Responsibilities include directing day-to-day maintenance across hotel facilities, implementing preventive maintenance, mentoring staff, managing budgets, and ensuring safety and compliance with local codes while delivering luxury

Qualifications

• 7–10 years in maintenance management in hotel or large facility
• Strong knowledge of building systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical)
• Proven leadership and supervision of maintenance staff
• Knowledge of local Malaysia codes and safety regulations

• Oversee day-to-day maintenance operations across all hotel facilities (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, lifts, equipment)
• Develop and monitor preventive maintenance schedules to minimise downtime
• Supervise and mentor maintenance team; ensure safety and procedures
• Respond to maintenance requests and emergencies; coordinate solutions
• Maintain detailed maintenance records and equipment logs
• Conduct regular inspections of systems to identify issues
• Prepare and manage maintenance department budget and procurement
• Liaise with external contractors for specialised repairs
• Ensure compliance with local codes, safety regulations and hotel standards
• Report to senior management on operations and performance

About the role

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Maintenance Manager to join our engineering team at Le Meridien Kota Kinabalu. This is a full-time position based in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, offering a strategic leadership opportunity within our maintenance and engineering operations. As Maintenance Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair of all building systems, mechanical equipment, and facilities to ensure optimal operational performance and guest satisfaction. This role is crucial to maintaining the hotel's infrastructure, safety standards, and the seamless delivery of our luxury service experience.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee and manage the day-to-day maintenance operations and activities across all hotel facilities, including HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical systems, lifts, and mechanical equipment
• Develop, implement and monitor comprehensive preventive maintenance schedules and programmes to minimise equipment downtime and extend asset lifespan
• Supervise and mentor the maintenance team, ensuring staff are trained, motivated and adhering to safety standards and company procedures
• Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergency repairs, troubleshooting issues and coordinating solutions to minimise guest disruption
• Maintain detailed maintenance records, documentation and equipment logs to track maintenance history and performance
• Conduct regular inspections of building systems and facilities to identify potential issues before they escalated
• Prepare and manage the maintenance department budget, including procurement of spare parts, equipment and materials
• Liaise with external contractors and vendors for specialised repairs and maintenance services, ensuring quality workmanship and cost-effectiveness
• Ensure compliance with local building codes, safety regulations and hotel standards across all maintenance activities
• Report to senior management on maintenance operations, key metrics and any significant issues or recommendations

What we’re looking for

• Minimum 7-10 years of maintenance management experience in a hotel, hospitality or similar large commercial facility environment
• Strong technical knowledge of building systems, mechanical equipment, HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems
• Proven leadership and team management experience with the ability to supervise, train and develop maintenance staff
• Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical issues
• Sound understanding of preventive maintenance principles and implementation of maintenance management systems
• Knowledge of relevant local building codes, safety regulations and compliance requirements in Malaysia
• Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise multiple tasks and respond to emergencies
• Computer proficiency and experience with maintenance management software or computerised maintenance management systems (CMMS)
• Valid driving licence and willingness to be on-call for emergency maintenance situations
• Relevant technical certifications or qualifications in maintenance engineering, mechanical engineering or equivalent field are advantageous
• Fluency in English; knowledge of other languages is desirable
