Responsibilities

Job description

The Lorry Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of goods and materials to and from customer and supplier. This role requires adherence to all traffic laws, safety guidelines, and company policies to ensure timely delivery and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities
Safe Driving
  • Operate lorries and trucks in a safe and lawful manner.
  • Adhere to all road and traffic regulations.
  • Ensure the vehicle is roadworthy by performing daily vehicle checks.
Loading and Unloading
  • Assist in loading and unloading goods, ensuring they are properly secured to prevent damage during transit.
  • Verify the accuracy of load against delivery documents.
  • Handle goods with care to avoid damage.
Route Management
  • Plan and follow the most efficient routes for timely deliveries.
  • Use GPS and other navigational tools effectively.
  • Adjust routes as necessary to accommodate traffic, weather conditions, and delivery schedules.
Delivery and Customer Service
  • Deliver goods to customers on schedule.
  • Communicate effectively with customers to confirm delivery times and locations.
  • Provide excellent customer service by being courteous and professional.
Documentation and Reporting
  • Maintain accurate delivery logs, timesheets, and other required documentation.
  • Report any incidents, accidents, or mechanical issues to the Transportation Manager promptly.
  • Ensure all delivery documents are signed by the customer upon delivery.
Vehicle Maintenance
  • Perform regular maintenance checks and report any vehicle faults or required repairs.
  • Keep the vehicle clean and in good working order.
  • Ensure that all safety equipment is present and in good condition.
Compliance and Safety
  • Follow all company policies and procedures related to transportation and delivery.
  • Wear appropriate safety gear and follow safety protocols.
  • Attend training sessions as required to maintain knowledge of industry standards and regulations.
Problem‑Solving
  • Resolve any issues that arise during delivery, such as delays or delivery discrepancies.
  • Communicate effectively with the logistics team to find solutions to any problems encountered on the road.
  • Work closely with the warehouse teams to ensure smooth operations.
  • Assist in other areas of the warehouse or logistics department as needed.
Qualifications
  • Valid lorry driving license.
  • Proven experience as a lorry driver or in a similar role.
