Job description

The Director – Lifestyle & Wellness shall provide strategic and operational leadership for the Club's sports, recreation, fitness, wellness and lifestyle portfolio.

The position is intended to go beyond the administration of the Club's existing activities and facilities.

The Director, reporting to the General Committee, shall be responsible for enhancing existing offerings, identifying and responding to emerging member interests and lifestyle trends, improving utilisation of the Club's facilities and developing new programmes and experiences that enhance the overall value of Club membership.

The Director shall be expected to understand changing member demographics and interests and ensure that the Club's lifestyle and wellness offerings continue to evolve accordingly.

Key Responsibilities:

Oversee and continuously enhance the Club's existing sports, recreation, fitness and wellness programmes and facilities.

Identify emerging sports, fitness, wellness and lifestyle trends and assess their suitability for introduction at the Club.

Monitor changing interests across different member demographics and develop programmes in response to evolving member expectations.

Identify new and emerging recreational activities that could broaden the Club's appeal and encourage greater participation, particularly among younger members and families.

Develop pilot programmes and trials to assess member interest before committing significant expenditure or permanent facilities.

Regularly review underutilised facilities and spaces and recommend opportunities for new activities or alternative uses.

Develop programmes and activities that complement the Club’s established offerings rather than merely duplicating existing activities.

Maintain awareness of developments at leading private clubs, sports clubs, wellness establishments and lifestyle destinations, locally and internationally.

Engage appropriate specialists, coaches, instructors and operators to introduce new activities where in-house expertise is unavailable.

Evaluate the commercial viability of new programmes, including potential revenue, operating cost, space requirements and capital expenditure.

Develop appropriate partnerships and concession arrangements where these provide members with access to new activities without requiring the Club to carry unnecessary fixed costs.

Establish performance measures covering participation, utilisation, member satisfaction and financial performance.

Recommend the discontinuation, redesign or replacement of programmes that consistently attract low participation or no longer meet members' needs.

Develop an annual Lifestyle & Wellness Development Plan, identifying proposed new programmes, emerging trends, facility opportunities and investment priorities.

Qualifications/Skills:

A Degree or Diploma in Sports Management, Recreation Management, Leisure Management, Hospitality Management, Business Management, Health & Wellness Management or a related discipline.

Preferably 8–12 years of relevant experience, with at least 3–5 years in a senior management or leadership position.

Experience in a private members' club, country club, resort, sports and recreation organisation, fitness/wellness organisation or comparable lifestyle environment would be advantageous.

Demonstrated experience in managing and developing sports, recreation, fitness, wellness and lifestyle programmes and facilities.

Experience in identifying and developing new programmes and services in response to changing customer/member interests and market trends.

Experience in managing facilities, programmes, coaches, instructors, contractors, concessionaires and external service providers.

Strong commercial awareness and the ability to develop programmes and services that enhance member value while generating appropriate revenue and/or achieving reasonable cost recovery.

Ability to assess the feasibility of new programmes and activities, taking into consideration member demand, operating requirements, available space, financial viability and capital expenditure.

Strong understanding of member/customer engagement, programme development and service delivery.

Ability to analyse participation, facility utilisation, financial performance and member feedback and translate the findings into appropriate operational improvements.

Strong leadership, organisational, interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with members, employees, coaches, operators and Committee members.

Good knowledge and awareness of current and emerging trends in sports, recreation, fitness, wellness and lifestyle activities.

Relevant professional sports, fitness or wellness certifications would be an advantage but are not essential, as this is a senior management and leadership position rather than a coaching or instructional role.
