Job summary

Southern University College invites a dedicated Librarian to join our Johor Bahru Library team. This full-time role oversees daily operations, curates print and digital collections, and delivers reference and information literacy services to students and staff.

You will supervise staff, train assistants, and collaborate with academic departments to support teaching and research. We seek a qualified librarian with registration and 1–2 years' experience, strong organisational and communication

Qualifications

• A recognised qualification in Library and Information Science or Library Studies, or equivalent professional qualification.
• Professional librarian registration or membership with a relevant library association where applicable.
• Minimum 1–2 years of professional experience in a library or information management environment.
• Excellent organisational and project management skills with the ability to prioritise multiple tasks.

Responsibilities

• Managing day-to-day library operations and ensuring efficient service delivery to all users.
• Developing, organising and maintaining library collections including print and digital resources.
• Providing reference services and research support to students, faculty and staff.
• Cataloguing and classifying library materials using appropriate classification systems.
• Conducting library orientation sessions and user education programmes for new students and staff.

About the role

Southern University College is seeking a dedicated and experienced Librarian to join our Library team in Johor Bahru, Johor. This is a full-time position that plays a crucial role in supporting the academic mission of our institution. As Librarian, you will be responsible for managing library operations, curating collections, and providing comprehensive information services to our students, faculty and staff. This role is integral to fostering an environment of learning, research and intellectual development across our campus.

What we're looking for

• Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic educational environment
• Experience with collection development and materials selection would be advantageous
• Good command of spoken and written English and Bahasa Malaysia is required. Proficiency in Mandarin will be an added advantage.

About us

Southern University College (Southern UC), previously known as Southern College, was established in 1990. It is the first non-profit higher education institute in Malaysia. The establishment of Southern College was to provide alternative tertiary education for high school graduates to pursue higher qualifications in home country. Foon Yew Advanced Studies Programme was first set up in 1975 at Southern College and later Foon Yew Board of Directors made an application to the Ministry of Education for setting up Foon Yew College and then Southern College. Through twenty-two years of management and support from the Chinese community, the Ministry of Higher Education finally approved Southern College to be upgraded to Southern University College in 2012. Southern UC aims to become a well-known International University by 2030.

The 33 acres of Southern University College campus, mainly donated by the philanthropist, Mr. Seow Wan Heong is located at Skudai, Johor Bahru. The campus reflects a fusion of Chinese and multicultural traditions of Malaysians.
