Job summary

SOUTHERN MEDICARE SDN. BHD. is seeking a Legal Counsel to manage data protection compliance, risk management, and corporate legal matters in Malaysia.

You will ensure adherence to data protection laws and regulations, oversee legal risk mitigation, and provide comprehensive legal support across corporate functions. The role involves handling PDPA compliance, conducting audits, drafting policies and agreements, and advising management on risk mitigation.

Qualifications

• Degree in Law (LLB) or equivalent.
• Experience in PDPA compliance and governance.
• Experience in risk management.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Attention to detail in reviewing legal documents and compliance matters.

Responsibilities

• In-charge of PDPA matters, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
• Conduct audits to identify data protection risks and mitigation strategies.
• Draft, review and update privacy policies, notices and data processing agreements.
• Oversee risk management initiatives and assess legal risks in operations.
• Develop and implement risk management policies and procedures.
• Monitor and review legal regulations to ensure ongoing compliance.
• Advise management on risks and appropriate mitigation actions.
• Provide legal advice and support on a range of corporate matters.
• Draft and review contracts, agreements and other legal documents.
• Maintain corporate records and ensure governance compliance.

Key responsibilities

• In-charge of PDPA related matters, ensuring the organization's data protection policies and practices comply with application laws and regulations
• Conduct regular audits and assessments to identify potential data protection risks and recommend mitigation strategies
• Draft, review and update privacy policies, notices and data processing agreements
• Oversee risk management initiatives, including the identification, assessment and mitigation of legal risks associated with the organization's operations
• Develop and implement risk management policies and procedures
• Monitor and review existing and new legal regulations to ensure ongoing compliance
• Advice management on potential risks and recommend appropriate actions to mitigate risk
• Provide legal advice and support range of corporate matters
• Draft and review contracts, agreement and other legal documents
• Maintaining corporate records and ensuring compliance with corporate governance requirements

About you

• Degree in Law (LLB) or equivalent
• Relevant work experience in a legal environment, such as in a law firm, corporate legal department or government agency
• Experience of legal areas such as PDPA compliance, risk management, and corporate governance
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
• High level of attention to detail in reviewing legal documents, contracts and compliance matters
