Job summary

MKS Instruments, Inc. is seeking a Lean Intern in Malaysia to support OPEX, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, and Production in continuous improvement initiatives across the manufacturing organization.

You will assist with Kaizen, 6S, value stream mapping, data analysis, and development of standard work and visual management tools, collaborating with cross-functional teams and gaining hands-on experience in Lean projects.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelors Degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• Internship experience or university project experience in manufacturing, process improvement, or industrial engineering is a plus.
• Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing concepts such as 5S, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping, and Waste Elimination.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel and PowerPoint; high proficiency in workflow automation tools (e.g. Power Automate, SharePoint, Power BI).
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills.
• Good verbal and written communication skills in English and ability to work effectively in a team.

Responsibilities

• Support Lean and Operational Excellence projects to improve productivity, quality, and process efficiency.
• Assist Kaizen, 6S, value stream mapping, and waste reduction activities across manufacturing operations.
• Collect, analyze, and present operational data to identify improvement opportunities and track project progress.
• Support the development of standard work instructions, visual management tools, and process documentation.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on time studies, work measurements, layout improvements, and material flow optimization projects.
• Assist with Lean training activities, continuous improvement events, and special projects as assigned.
