Job summary

S. Kian Seng in Malaysia is seeking a PVD coating supervisor to plan, schedule, and supervise daily coating operations. You will ensure proper setup, operation, and shutdown of PVD coating machines, and monitor process parameters to meet quality standards.

The role requires a Diploma or Degree in a related field, 3–5 years in PVD coating with supervisory experience, and willingness to work shifts. You will coordinate with QC, maintain records, and promote safety and efficiency.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Surface Engineering, or related field.
• 3–5 years experience in PVD coating operations, with 1–2 years in a supervisory role.
• Strong understanding of vacuum coating systems, sputtering, evaporation and reactive gas processes.
• Knowledge of quality control tools and coating inspection techniques.
• Ability to read technical drawings and specifications.
• Willingness to work shifts or extended hours when needed.

Responsibilities

• Plan, schedule, and supervise daily PVD coating operations.
• Ensure proper setup, operation, and shutdown of PVD coating machines.
• Monitor coating parameters (temperature, bias voltage, gas flow, deposition rate) to meet quality standards.
• Manage cleaning, loading, and unloading of substrates for coating.
• Inspect coated products for adhesion, thickness, color, and surface finish.
• Maintain records of process parameters and quality control results.
• Coordinate with QC team for testing (adhesion, hardness, XRF thickness).
• Troubleshoot coating defects and implement corrective actions.
• Lead, train, and evaluate coating operators and technicians.
• Assign work tasks and ensure staff follow SOPs.
• Promote teamwork and maintain high productivity levels.
• Ensure all coating equipment is maintained according to preventive maintenance schedules.
• Report and coordinate repairs with the maintenance department.
• Maintain proper inventory of targets, gases, and consumables.
• Enforce PPE usage and safety protocols in the coating area.
• Ensure compliance with environmental and occupational health regulations.
• Handle chemicals and high-voltage equipment according to safety guidelines.
• Prepare daily production reports and downtime logs.
• Record batch details including coating type, parameters, operator name, date, and machine used.
• Recommend process improvements for efficiency and quality.
