Job summary

Macain Energy Services SDN BHD is seeking a Lead Instrumentation Engineer to oversee the instrumentation activities for FPSO and offshore oil and gas projects. The role emphasizes design reviews, FEED, and detailed engineering, with focus on technical integrity within budget and schedule.

The ideal candidate will have 12+ years in FPSO or offshore projects, solid leadership, and experience with AVEVA and SPI systems, plus strong communication abilities to coordinate with clients and vendors.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation Engineering is required.
• 12+ years experience in lead FPSO or offshore instrumentation projects.
• Knowledge of AVEVA and SPI systems is advantageous.
• Strong communication, leadership and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Project Instrumentation engineering team for FPSO/other projects, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery of engineering deliverables.
• Lead Conceptual/Basic Engineering design (BED), FEED and Detailed Engineering Studies.
• Responsible for technical integrity and progress of assigned Instrumentation Engineering scope and deliverables as per the budget and schedule requirements of the project.
• Preparation/ Review of Detailed Instrumentation Specifications & data sheets for Field instrumentation.
• Preparation/review of Fire and Gas, Telecom and control system deliverables.
• Participate and contribute to various workshops e.g. Design reviews, HAZOP, SIL etc.

Job description

Oversee the Instrumentation engineering activities for various Oil and gas projects including FPSOs, Packages/Modules, other Onshore and Petrochemical engineering projects. Candidate shall have extensive experience in offshore oil and gas projects, particularly in FPSO design, construction, and commissioning.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the Project Instrumentation engineering team for FPSO/other projects, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery of engineering deliverables.
• Lead Conceptual/Basic Engineering design (BED), FEED and Detailed Engineering Studies.
• Responsible for technical integrity and progress of assigned Instrumentation Engineering scope and deliverables as per the budget and schedule requirements of the project.
• Preparation/ Review of Detailed Instrumentation Specifications & data sheets for Field instrumentation.
• Preparation/review of Fire and Gas, Telecom and control system deliverables.
• Participate and contribute to various workshops e.g. Design reviews, HAZOP, SIL etc.
• Responsible for the preparation/ Review of Instrumentation deliverables as per the schedule requirements of the project. These include but not limited to,
• Instrumentation Design Basis
• Instrument Specifications, Datasheets, applicable calculations & Sizing
• Provide Inputs for Layouts, Hook Up and other Instrument drawings.
• Detailed specification for PCS/ SIS/ FGS/ WHCP systems
• Technical Bid Evaluation Reports for above
• Evaluation of the offers from vendors and review of Vendor drawings.
• Preparation material Requisition, Technical Bid Evaluation and vendor print review.
• Conduct site visits for project verification and data gathering.
• Assist in plant erection, commissioning, and start-up.
• Maintain effective communication with clients, contractors, and stakeholders.

• 12+ years for Lead (MES-I01) engineer with at least 5 years in a leadership role on FPSO or offshore oil and gas projects.
• Knowledge on AVEVA and SPI systems shall be an added advantage.
• Knowledge on electrical systems including switchgear, VFD, UPS, relays, and related equipment shall be an added advantage.
• Familiarity with FPSO-specific requirements, such as marine classification societies (e.g., DNV, ABS).
• Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
