Job summary

Genki Sushi Malaysia is seeking a Kitchen Assistant to support chefs with food preparation, washing, cutting, and portioning ingredients for sushi, while maintaining high cleanliness and HACCP standards.

You will help prepare garnishes, restock supplies, and assist during peak hours to ensure smooth kitchen operations. Basic food safety knowledge and willingness to work weekends are required.

Qualifications

• Prior kitchen experience preferred but not required.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends/holidays.
• Basic knowledge of food safety practices.

Responsibilities

• Assist chefs and cooks with food preparation, including washing, cutting, and portioning ingredients (fish, vegetables, rice, etc.).
• Prepare and cook sushi rice according to standard recipes.
• Wash, sanitize, and organize kitchen utensils, equipment, and workstations.
• Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards in the kitchen at all times.
• Restock ingredients and supplies during service as needed.
• Support the sushi chef by preparing garnishes, sauces, and side items.
• Dispose of kitchen waste properly and maintain a tidy work area.
• Follow all food safety and sanitation guidelines (e.g., HACCP standards).
• Help with dishwashing and general kitchen cleanup duties.
• Monitor food storage temperatures and report any issues.
• Assist during peak hours to ensure smooth kitchen operations.
• Follow instructions from kitchen supervisors or head chef promptly.
• Report equipment malfunctions or safety hazards to management
