Job summary

Jora Malaysia is seeking an experienced MEP Cost Estimator/Quantity Surveyor to join its project team in Malaysia. The role focuses on preparing cost estimates for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing works, controlling budgets, and delivering accurate cost breakdowns for large-scale construction projects.

The ideal candidate will have 8+ years of MEP experience, strong Excel and BIM skills, and a proven track record in tendering and cost management.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related discipline.
• Minimum 8 years of professional experience in MEP cost estimation and quantity surveying.
• Proven track record in managing MEP budgets and cost control on large-scale construction projects.
• Strong knowledge of MEP systems, components, and installation methodologies.
• Proficiency in cost estimation software and building information modelling (BIM) tools.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and project management software.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
• Strong communication and negotiation abilities with contractors, suppliers, and internal teams.
• Experience in preparing tender documents and evaluating contractor proposals.
• Supervisory experience and the ability to mentor and lead junior team members.
• Professional qualification such as AIQS, RICS, or equivalent recognised certifications is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with Malaysian construction standards and building regulations.

Responsibilities

• Prepare comprehensive MEP cost estimates and budgets for construction projects.
• Supervise and manage quantity surveying activities related to mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
• Monitor and control MEP project costs throughout the construction lifecycle, identifying variances and implementing corrective measures.
• Review tender documents, drawings, and specifications to develop detailed cost breakdowns for MEP works.
• Conduct site inspections and measurements to verify scope of work and ensure accurate cost tracking.
• Liaise with MEP contractors, suppliers, and subcontractors to obtain quotations and negotiate pricing.
• Prepare progress reports and cost analyses for project management and senior stakeholders.
• Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including cost records, variation orders, and change requests.
• Support the development and refinement of cost estimation methodologies and templates.
• Train and mentor junior quantity surveyors and estimating staff within the MEP team.
• Ensure compliance with company standards, industry best practices, and project requirements.
