Job summary

ELSA in Johor is seeking an experienced Instrument Engineer to provide technical support for instrumentation and control systems across projects and operations in the oil & gas sector.

You will contribute to the Instrumentation Engineering Strategy, support design, documentation, loop checks, commissioning and start-up, and troubleshoot field instruments including PLC, DCS, SIS and FGS to uphold safety and asset integrity.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience.
• Knowledge of Instrumentation & Control systems and field instruments.
• Hands-on experience with PLC, DCS, SIS and FGS.
• Engineering design, documentation, loop checking, commissioning, troubleshooting.
• Familiar with relevant international standards, safety requirements and regulatory standards.
• Experience in petrochemical/O&G facilities preferred.
• Plant maintenance/turnaround experience is a plus.
• Exposure to EPC, brownfield projects, commissioning and start-up is advantageous.

Responsibilities

Position : Instrument Engineer

Scope of Works:

• Provide technical engineering support for instrumentation and control systems throughout project and operational activities.
• Provide technical input and execute the Instrument Engineering Strategy, Business Plan, and Policy, covering technical and project engineering services and specialized engineering solutions.
• Support engineering design, preparation and review of technical documentation, and ensure compliance with applicable standards and project requirements.
• Perform and support loop checking, function testing, commissioning, and start-up activities.
• Troubleshoot instrumentation and control system issues, conduct root cause analysis, and recommend corrective and reliability improvement measures.
• Provide technical support for field instruments, including pressure, temperature, flow, and level transmitters.
• Support control and safety systems including PLC, DCS, SIS, and FGS, as well as machinery control and measurement systems.
• Ensure instrumentation activities comply with safety requirements, regulatory standards, international codes, and industry best practices.
• Maintain accurate engineering and maintenance documentation and contribute to continuous improvement, reliability, and asset integrity initiatives.

Qualifications & Requirements:

• Bachelor's Degree in Instrumentation, Control Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum five (5) years of experience.
• Conversant with Instrumentation & Control Systems and relevant field instruments.
• Hands-on knowledge of PLC, DCS, SIS, and FGS systems.
• Experience in engineering design, technical documentation, loop checking, function testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
• Familiar with applicable international standards, industry best practices, safety requirements, and regulatory standards.
• Experience in petrochemical / Oil & Gas facilities is highly preferred.
• Experience in plant maintenance and turnaround activities will be an added advantage.
• Familiarity with reliability engineering, asset integrity, and inspection.
• Exposure to EPC, brownfield projects, commissioning, and start-up activities is an advantage.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, coordination, and communication skills.
