Private Advertiser in Malaysia seeks an experienced Instrumentation & Automation Engineer to manage maintenance of a large-scale air separation plant. The role focuses on implementing reliability strategies, leading PM/CM activities and ensuring safe, compliant operations.

Qualifications

Job description

Purpose of this position:

This position is responsible for the management of the instrumentation and automation systems of a large-scale Air Separation plant, producing gaseous and liquid oxygen, nitrogen and argon products for our customers. The candidate will need to perform the following for the instrumentation and automation system:

Implement the Group's reliability and maintenance strategies, standards, best practices (BOP) and improvement plans to attain and sustain reliability KPI.

Lead and coordinate daily site maintenance activities (PM, CM) to ensure tasks are completed as planned

Optimise resources required for routine and major maintenance activities.

Troubleshoot failures and recommend solutions, produce lessons learnt to share.

Lead root cause investigations for major unreliability events.

Principle Responsibilities:
1. Equipment maintenance and reliability management (Instrumentation & automation systems):

Demonstrate a safe working mindset and champion a safe work culture to staff and contractors.

Lead and execute maintenance jobs for equipment such as: field transmitters, control valves, product (LIN/LOX/LAR) and total hydrocarbon analysers, local PLC and DCS hardware and network components, product metering, plant alarm and communication to ensure high reliability of such equipment.

Familiarity with CMMS systems eg: SAP, Maximo or other platforms and able to utilise such systems to plan, execute and close work orders for the PM and CM.

Familiar with one of the DCS systems (Distributed control system) such as Hollysys, Supcon, Yokogawa, Siemens PCS7, Honeywell etc.

Practical experience in field instrument calibration and installation, loop checks, control valve maintenance and installation, analyser configuration and testing, PLC & DCS troubleshooting, basic PLC programming, network testing etc.

Familiarity with compressor controls and basic process controls.

Attend daily morning meetings with other disciplines and the production team to coordinate efforts in ensuring maintenance works are conducted safely and timely.

Prepare and review technical documents, maintenance manuals, work procedures and provide technical training to staff to improve competencies and consistency.

The custody of instrument measurement tools, eg: multimeters, signal generators, field calibrator

Performing periodic reviews of spares, setup material numbers in CMMS, review/update sparing strategies and plan for the replacement of obsolete parts to ensure sufficient spares are readily available when needed.

Propose OPEX and CAPEX budgetary proposals for projects, major maintenance and yearly budget planning.

Provide updates on cybersecurity development, digital tools and other latest developments for instrumentation and automation systems.

2. Risk management and plant reliability improvement:

Familiarity with risk assessment documents: JHA, FMEA, MOC.

Reduce the CM’s work list by promoting proactive and preventive maintenance strategies at work.

Proactively identify failure modes, evaluate existing mitigations to recommend any further actions and track closures of equipment reliability gaps.

Propose new technologies to allow for early detection of failures and to resolve them as early as possible.

Ensure major costs of downtime events are investigated and lessons learned are developed and implemented immediately.

Manage systemic corrective actions reports to close gaps versus Group standards.

3. People Development:

Develop competencies for technicians and staff.

4. Other requirements:

To undertake any additional duties, responsibilities, or temporary assignments as may be required to support evolving business needs, operational priorities, or strategic initiatives of the Company. This includes adapting to changing work requirements to ensure continuity and effectiveness of business operations.

To support, participate in, and assume roles related to any management systems that the Company subscribes to or intends to be certified in, including but not limited to ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, HALAL, GDPMD, and other relevant standards.

To travel to company sites, customers, suppliers, regulatory bodies, or other relevant locations as required to fulfil business, operational, audit, compliance, or customer-related needs. Travel may be scheduled or ad-hoc depending on business priorities.

Requirements:

Knowledge and Experience:

Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree, major in electrical/electronic/automation engineering.

A minimum of 5 years of practical hands-on experience in instrumentation and controls, within the field of industrial gas/petrochemicals/oleochemicals.

Familiarity with ISA & IEC standards.

Familiarity with ASU operations is a definite advantage.

Familiarity with SAP system maintenance modules is an advantage.

Proficiency in English and Mandarin is required to facilitate effective communication and coordination with Mandarin-speaking counterpart/stakeholders, including colleagues and business partners from China.
