Job summary

Benchmark Electronics (M) Sdn Bhd in Bayan Lepas, Penang, is seeking an experienced Purchasing Manager to lead indirect procurement across MRO, facilities, IT, and CAPEX services. You will develop sourcing strategies, negotiate contracts, and drive cost reductions while ensuring quality and compliance.

The role collaborates with Manufacturing, Engineering, Finance, and IT to meet business needs, monitor supplier performance, and manage risk.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, Procurement, or related field.
• Minimum 8 years of procurement or purchasing experience, with at least 3 years in a managerial role.
• Strong experience in indirect procurement within manufacturing.
• Experience sourcing MRO items, facilities services, CAPEX equipment, utilities, IT services, and business support services.
• Strong contract negotiation and supplier management skills.

Job description

Lead the procurement of indirect materials and services that support manufacturing and business operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing sourcing strategies, managing supplier relationships, optimizing costs, and ensuring timely delivery of goods and services while maintaining quality and compliance requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Lead procurement activities for indirect materials and services, including MRO, tooling, consumables, facilities, IT, logistics, professional services, and capital equipment.

Develop and implement sourcing strategies to achieve cost savings, supply continuity, and operational efficiency.

Identify, evaluate, qualify, and manage suppliers based on cost, quality, delivery, and service performance.

Lead commercial negotiations, contract management, and supplier agreements.

Drive cost reduction initiatives through strategic sourcing, supplier consolidation, and value engineering.

Monitor supplier performance and implement corrective actions when necessary.

Collaborate with Manufacturing, Engineering, Facilities, Finance, IT, and other stakeholders to support business requirements.

Ensure compliance with company procurement policies, ethical sourcing standards, and internal controls.

Support new facility, equipment, and capital expenditure projects through procurement planning and execution.

Manage procurement risks and develop contingency plans to mitigate supply disruptions.

Prepare purchasing reports, KPIs, and cost-saving achievements for management review.

Lead, coach, and develop the purchasing team to achieve departmental objectives.

Job Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, Procurement, or a related field.

Minimum 8 years of procurement or purchasing experience, with at least 3 years in a managerial role.

Strong experience in indirect procurement within a manufacturing environment.

Experience sourcing MRO items, facilities services, CAPEX equipment, utilities, IT services, and business support services.

Strong contract negotiation and supplier management skills.
