Job summary

Samalux Capital Sdn. Bhd. seeks a Hotel General Manager to lead the pre-opening and operation of Wyndham Grand Ipoh, a 313-room property in Ipoh, Perak. The role demands hands-on leadership, a clear owner’s mindset and strong commercial focus.

You will build the opening team, establish the commercial strategy and position the hotel within the local and regional market, driving profitability and ROI from day one.

Qualifications

• Strong hotel pre-opening experience.
• Previous GM, Hotel Manager, Deputy GM or senior Executive Committee experience in a reputable full-service hotel.
• Strong understanding of the Ipoh, Perak and Northern Malaysia hospitality market, with local experience or established networks highly regarded.
• Demonstrated experience developing business with tour operators, travel agencies, group series, wholesale accounts and MICE clients.
• Strong relationships or proven ability to engage with government agencies, tourism bodies and local authorities.
• A strong owner / asset-management perspective, with a good understanding of P&L, GOP, EBITDA, RevPAR, cash flow and ROI.
• Strong pre-opening budgeting, procurement and cost-control experience.
• Commercial awareness of Malaysian hotel, tourism, investment and tax incentives.
• A practical understanding of modern hotel marketing, revenue management and direct-booking strategies.
• Strong leadership, recruitment and stakeholder-management skills.
• An entrepreneurial, hands-on and commercially minded approach.
• Experience with an international hotel brand would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Lead the hotel through the full pre-opening, opening and stabilisation process.
• Recruit and develop the Executive Committee, HODs and opening team.
• Manage pre-opening budgets, manpower planning, procurement and operational readiness.
• Build strong relationships with tour operators, travel agents, corporate accounts, MICE organisers and other key demand generators.
• Develop productive relationships with local authorities, tourism bodies, government agencies and key stakeholders.
• Drive the hotel’s commercial strategy across rooms, F&B, MICE, events and ancillary revenue.
• Champion modern and measurable marketing methods, including digital marketing, social media, CRM, direct-booking growth, partnerships and performance-based campaigns.
• Work closely with ownership and advisers to identify relevant hotel, tourism, sustainability, energy and tax incentives.
• Provide clear and commercially focused reporting to ownership.
• Maintain strong financial, procurement and cost-control discipline.
