Job summary

BBW Books Singapore Pte Ltd in Malaysia is seeking a Head of IT to lead the company’s IT function across Malaysia and regional markets, including the Philippines, Thailand and beyond. You will oversee the IT Manager and IT Executive, driving strategy, governance and day-to-day technology delivery for offices, warehouses, retail, and events.

This role combines strategic leadership with hands‑on delivery: ERP rollout, infrastructure optimization, cybersecurity, vendor management and budgeting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in IT, CS or related discipline.
• 8–10 years in IT with at least 3 years in senior management.
• Regional multi-country experience preferred.
• Strong background in IT infrastructure, ERP, networking, and support.
• Experience in retail, logistics, or events is a plus.
• Strategic yet hands-on leadership and excellent communication.

The Head of IT will be responsible for leading the company’s entire IT function, overseeing current team members (IT Manager and IT Executive), and driving improvements across systems, infrastructure, and support. This role spans both operational execution and strategic planning, supporting our offices, warehouses, retail, and event-based operations in Malaysia, as well as regional markets including the Philippines, Thailand, Sharjah, and others.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Leadership

• Define and execute a clear IT strategy that supports business growth locally and regionally.
• Assess current IT structure and optimize roles, responsibilities, and performance within the department.
• Manage and mentor existing IT team members to maximize potential and improve accountability.

Regional IT Oversight

• Coordinate IT support and infrastructure planning for regional entities, including warehouses, offices, pop-ups, and roadshows.
• Ensure consistent systems and standards are implemented across all countries.
• Provide remote or on-site support planning, vendor coordination, and contingency strategies for overseas teams.

Operational IT Management

• Oversee IT support services such as connectivity troubleshooting, hardware/software issues, POS setup, printer maintenance, employee onboarding (laptop setup, system access), etc.
• Standardize and improve helpdesk procedures and escalation flows across all regions.

Systems, ERP, and Infrastructure

• Lead implementation and optimization of ERP systems in collaboration with the IT Manager and business teams.
• Evaluate and improve IT infrastructure: networks, cloud services, servers, data backup, and cyber risk controls.
• Ensure integration and data flow between ERP, inventory, POS, and other internal platforms.

Events & Retail Tech Readiness

• Manage IT planning and tech support for sales events, pop-ups, and regional exhibitions.
• Develop efficient SOPs for POS deployment, connectivity setup, and troubleshooting during events.

Security & Compliance

• Implement cybersecurity measures, disaster recovery plans, and data protection protocols in all markets.
• Ensure IT policies align with local regulations and maintain documentation for audits.
• Lead vendor negotiations, licensing agreements, and hardware/software procurement.
• Monitor and manage IT budgets and spending across countries, ensuring cost control and transparency.
• Identify technology gaps and propose solutions that enhance efficiency, automation, and scalability.
• Stay updated on new tech trends relevant to retail, logistics, and regional IT expansion.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s Degree in IT, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 8–10 years of experience in IT, with at least 3 years in a senior management/strategic role.
• Regional experience in supporting multi-country operations is highly preferred.
• Strong background in IT infrastructure, ERP systems, networking, and support.
• Experience in retail, logistics, or event-based environments is a strong advantage.
• Strategic yet hands‑on leadership style.
