Job summary

Michael Page is seeking a Senior Head of Engineering in Johor to lead engineering and R&D efforts across product development, costing, and BOM management. You will guide cross-functional teams, coordinate with OEMs, and drive cost-aware engineering strategies to deliver high-quality products on schedule.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree in mechanical/mechatronic engineering and至少7 years in engineering/ manufacturing roles with proven leadership and project delivery experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, or a related discipline (required).
• Minimum 7 years of engineering/product development/manufacturing experience.
• Proven track record leading engineering projects from concept through implementation.
• Demonstrated leadership of technical teams and resources.
• Strong knowledge of design principles and technical drawings.
• Experience managing BOMs, engineering databases, and technical documentation.
• Background in new product development, prototype builds, testing, commissioning, and validation.
• Experience with engineering change management processes.
• Knowledge of materials, components, and supplier evaluation.
• Understanding of cost estimation, budgeting, and cost control.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities.
• Effective stakeholder management with OEMs and partners.

Responsibilities

• Lead Engineering and R&D teams to achieve quality, performance, and delivery objectives.
• Ensure BOM accuracy and integrity of drawings and engineering documentation.
• Monitor project costs, component pricing, and cost drivers.
• Manage prototype, pilot, and new product development programs including testing and validation.
• Act as the technical lead for product development initiatives.
• Coordinate with OEMs and external partners on technical matters.
• Deliver projects efficiently, cost-effectively with minimal disruption to operations.
• Provide technical guidance to manufacturing and operations teams.
• Oversee engineering change management and documentation.
• Assess and qualify alternative materials and suppliers based on cost and quality.
• Maintain engineering records and knowledge-management systems.
• Drive engineering process improvements to maintain competitiveness.
• Lead performance reviews and identify capability gaps; plan training and succession.

Job Description

Engineering & Product Development

• Lead Engineering and R&D teams to achieve quality, performance, project, and delivery objectives.
• Ensure the accuracy and integrity of bills of materials (BOM), technical drawings, engineering databases, and related engineering documentation.
• Monitor project and build-order costs, including component pricing and other cost drivers.
• Manage prototype, pilot, and new product development programmes, including testing, validation, commissioning, and milestone management.
• Act as the technical lead for product development initiatives.

Leadership & Resource Management

• Lead performance reviews and identify capability gaps within the engineering team.
• Develop training and succession plans to strengthen technical capabilities.
• Allocate engineering resources to support operational and project priorities.
• Establish, track, and review team objectives and performance indicators.
• Foster a culture of coaching, collaboration, and knowledge sharing.

Commercial & Strategic Support

• Oversee cost estimation activities and engineering costing exercises.
• Work closely with internal stakeholders and external partners on engineering priorities and product development requirements.
• Balance short-term operational demands with long-term engineering and innovation objectives.

The Successful Applicant

A Successful Head Of Engineering Should Have

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in engineering, product development, manufacturing, design, or related technical functions.
• Proven experience leading engineering projects from concept through implementation.
• Demonstrated leadership experience managing technical teams and engineering resources.
• Strong knowledge of engineering design principles and technical drawings.
• Experience managing BOMs, engineering databases, and technical documentation.
• Background in new product development, prototype builds, testing, commissioning, and validation.
• Experience with engineering change management processes.
• Knowledge of material, component, and supplier evaluation.
