Job summary

Weir in Malaysia seeks a Financial Controller to lead accounting and financial reporting for Malaysia, ensuring IFRS compliance and robust controls. You’ll own month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closes, and collaborate with WBS and local teams.

You will manage intercompany activities, enhance internal controls, and drive process improvements while mentoring a small finance team. Travel is minimal with a strong emphasis on governance and audit readiness.

Qualifications

• CA or CPA with 10–15 years in accounting within a commercial or manufacturing setting.
• Experience as Financial Controller with IFRS, statutory reporting, and US GAAP exposure.
• Experience working with offshore/shared services finance teams and SAP/S4HANA.
• Strong leadership to manage month-end reporting, controls, and audit processes.

Responsibilities

• Lead accounting and financial reporting activities for Malaysia with IFRS compliance.
• Oversee balance sheet governance, intercompany accounting and reconciliations.
• Strengthen internal controls, drive audit readiness and statutory/tax reporting.

What you’ll do

• Financial Controllership: Lead the accounting and financial reporting activities for Malaysia, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with IFRS, Group accounting policies, and statutory requirements. You will own month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, working closely with Weir Business Services (WBS) and local finance teams. Success means timely, accurate reporting and robust financial controls that support business decisions.
• Balance Sheet & Intercompany Management: Oversee balance sheet governance including BlackLine reconciliations and intercompany accounting. Daily activities include reviewing reconciliations, resolving aged transactions, and ensuring compliance with reporting timelines.
• Controls & Compliance: Maintain and strengthen internal controls, lead compliance scorecard activities, and ensure audit readiness. You will address gaps identified in internal audits and support statutory and tax reporting requirements. Success is demonstrated by a strong control environment and zero compliance breaches.
• Stakeholder Collaboration: Build strong partnerships with local business leaders, offshore finance teams (notably in Bangalore), auditors, tax advisors, and treasury teams to ensure effective financial governance and support business priorities.
• Process Improvement & Transformation: Drive standardization, simplification, and continuous improvement of finance processes and controls, leveraging automation and best practices to enhance operational excellence.
• Team Leadership: Manage a small team (up to two direct reports), providing guidance and leadership to re-establish senior financial controllership within the Malaysia F&A function.
• Travel Requirements: Minimal travel expected, primarily local or regional as needed for stakeholder engagement.

What you’ll bring

• Must-haves: Chartered Accountant (CA) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification with 10–15 years of proven experience in accounting functions within a commercial or manufacturing organization. Previous experience as a Financial Controller, with strong technical accounting knowledge including IFRS, statutory reporting, and US GAAP exposure. Experience working with offshore/shared services finance teams and familiarity with SAP or similar ERP systems (S/4HANA experience highly preferred). Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage month-end reporting, controls, compliance, and audit processes effectively.

Nice-to-haves

• Manufacturing industry experience (preferred over mining industry experience).
• Exposure to finance transformation initiatives and process improvement projects.
• Understanding of tax compliance and regulatory requirements, including indirect tax and e-invoicing.
• Advanced Excel skills and business process improvement experience.
