Job summary

The Weir Group in Selangor, Batu Caves, Malaysia is seeking a Financial Controller to lead the Malaysian accounting function. You will own the month-end close, ensure IFRS compliance, manage intercompany activity, and strengthen internal controls while coordinating with WBS and local teams.

You will guide a small finance team, partner with regional leaders, and support audits with minimal travel required. Flexibility to work from home part of the time is available.

Qualifications

• CA or CPA certification with 10–15 years of accounting experience.
• Strong IFRS knowledge and exposure to US GAAP.
• Experience collaborating with offshore/shared services teams.
• Proven leadership of small accounting teams and month/quarter/year-end close.

Responsibilities

• Lead Malaysia financial controllership, ensuring accurate IFRS reporting and compliance.
• Own month-end, quarter-end and year-end close with WBS and local teams.
• Oversee balance sheet governance and intercompany accounting.
• Strengthen internal controls, audit readiness, and tax reporting support.
• Partner with local leaders and global teams to drive process improvements.
• Manage a small team (up to two reports) and travel minimally.

You’ll work with purpose, learn every day and help shape a more sustainable future. **What you’ll do*** *Financial Controllership:* Lead the accounting and financial reporting activities for Malaysia, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with IFRS, Group accounting policies, and statutory requirements. You will own month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, working closely with Weir Business Services (WBS) and local finance teams. Success means timely, accurate reporting and robust financial controls that support business decisions.* *Balance Sheet & Intercompany Management:* Oversee balance sheet governance including BlackLine reconciliations and intercompany accounting. Daily activities include reviewing reconciliations, resolving aged transactions, and ensuring compliance with reporting timelines.* *Controls & Compliance:* Maintain and strengthen internal controls, lead compliance scorecard activities, and ensure audit readiness. You will address gaps identified in internal audits and support statutory and tax reporting requirements. Success is demonstrated by a strong control environment and zero compliance breaches.* *Stakeholder Collaboration:* Build strong partnerships with local business leaders, offshore finance teams (notably in Bangalore), auditors, tax advisors, and treasury teams to ensure effective financial governance and support business priorities.* *Process Improvement & Transformation:* Drive standardization, simplification, and continuous improvement of finance processes and controls, leveraging automation and best practices to enhance operational excellence.* *Team Leadership:* Manage a small team (up to two direct reports), providing guidance and leadership to re-establish senior financial controllership within the Malaysia F&A function.* *Travel Requirements:* Minimal travel expected, primarily local or regional as needed for stakeholder engagement.* *Safety First:* Demonstrate 100% commitment to our zero harm behaviors in support of our drive towards developing a world-class safety culture. **What you’ll bring****Must-haves:*** Chartered Accountant (CA) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification with 10–15 years of proven experience in accounting functions within a commercial or manufacturing organization.* Previous experience as a Financial Controller, with strong technical accounting knowledge including IFRS, statutory reporting, and US GAAP exposure.* Experience working with offshore/shared services finance teams and familiarity with SAP or similar ERP systems (S/4HANA experience highly preferred).* Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage month-end reporting, controls, compliance, and audit processes effectively. **Nice-to-haves:*** Manufacturing industry experience (preferred over mining industry experience).* Exposure to finance transformation initiatives and process improvement projects.* Understanding of tax compliance and regulatory requirements, including indirect tax and e-invoicing.* Advanced Excel skills and business process improvement experience. **Why join Weir?** We live our values we think safety first, do the right thing, respect each other, aim high, and delight our customers.
