Job summary

Weir is inviting a self-driven student to join the Internship - Operations Support in Batu Caves, Selangor, Malaysia. This on-site role offers hands-on exposure to production validation, SOP reviews, data collection and analysis, and cross-functional collaboration across Production, Manufacturing Engineering, and Planning teams.

Ideal candidates are pursuing a Diploma or Degree, with proficiency in Excel and Word.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a Diploma or Degree in any discipline.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word.
• Interest in manufacturing, operations, process improvement, or data analysis.
• Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment and interacting with shop floor personnel.

Responsibilities

• Production Process Validation: conduct cycle time studies and validate routing sequences and work centers in ERP.
• SOP Review and Documentation: update MPD and SOPs reflecting current processes.
• Data Collection and Analysis: collect and analyze production data to identify bottlenecks and improvement opportunities.
• Cross-Functional Support: collaborate with Production, TPD, Manufacturing Engineering, and Planning.
• Reporting: prepare weekly progress reports and present findings to stakeholders.
• Safety First: demonstrate 100% commitment to zero harm.

What You’ll Do

• Production Process Validation: Conduct detailed cycle time studies for manufacturing operations, comparing actual shop floor production cycle times against system routing data. Identify and document discrepancies, assist in validating routing sequences and work center assignments within the ERP system. Daily activities include observing production processes and ensuring data accuracy. Success means improved production planning accuracy and operational efficiency. Travel may be required occasionally to various production sites.
• SOP Review and Documentation: Review and update Manufacturing Process Documentation (MPD) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) by observing actual shop floor practices and ensuring documentation reflects current manufacturing processes. Daily tasks involve collaborating with teams to standardize and clarify procedures. Success is measured by clear, standardized, and aligned documentation.
• Data Collection and Analysis: Collect and analyze production data from shop floor operations to identify process flow issues, production lead times, and bottlenecks. Prepare reports highlighting gaps and improvement opportunities. Daily work includes maintaining accurate records and reporting findings. Success is demonstrated by actionable insights that drive process improvements.
• Cross-Functional Support: Collaborate closely with Production, TPD, Manufacturing Engineering, and Planning teams. Participate in continuous improvement projects, support meetings, and assist in implementing approved process updates. Success is effective teamwork and smooth implementation of improvements.
• Reporting: Prepare weekly progress reports on data collection, cycle time validation, and SOP review activities. Present findings and recommendations to stakeholders, maintaining thorough project documentation. Success is timely and accurate communication of project status and outcomes.
