Job summary

Cyberjaya University College of Medical Sciences (CUCMS) in Cyberjaya, Malaysia, is seeking a Financial Analyst to support Finance & FP&A in planning, budgeting, forecasting and management reporting. You will analyse performance, identify variances, and provide insights to aid management decisions.

You will help develop reporting processes, dashboards, and financial models to improve efficiency and accuracy in reporting. Fresh graduates are welcome; prior internship in finance is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Data Analytics or related field.
  • ACCA or equivalent qualification would be an advantage.

  • Candidates with 1 year or more of relevant experience in financial analysis, FP&A, accounting, management reporting, budgeting or a related finance function will have an added advantage.
  • Internship experience in Finance, Accounting, FP&A, Data Analytics or a related field will be an advantage.
  • Experience in a multi-entity or group environment would be an added advantage.
  • Strong knowledge of financial analysis, budgeting and forecasting.
  • Good understanding of P&L, balance sheet and cash flow.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables, lookup functions, formulas and financial modelling.
  • Experience with Power BI or other business intelligence tools is preferred.
  • Ability to analyse large datasets and translate financial data into meaningful business insights.

Responsibilities

  • Support annual budgeting and financial planning for the Group and entities.
  • Prepare operating budgets, revenue budgets, cost budgets and CAPEX budgets.
  • Consolidate budget submissions from departments and cost centres.
  • Review budget assumptions and identify unusual movements.
  • Prepare budget presentations and management reports.
  • Upload and maintain approved budgets in budgeting system.
  • Monitor actual performance against budgets.
  • Prepare monthly financial performance reports for management review.
  • Analyse revenue, cost of service, operating expenses, EBITDA, PBT and other indicators.
  • Perform actual vs budget and actual vs prior year analysis.
  • Identify significant variances and investigate drivers.
  • Highlight risks, opportunities and required actions.
  • Prepare financial analysis and ad-hoc reports for management.
  • Support preparation of management and Board-level presentations.
  • Support monthly/quarterly forecasts, models, scenario analysis.
  • Evaluate financial impact of initiatives, pricing, enrolment changes, costs.
  • Monitor forecast accuracy and suggest improvements.
  • Monitor revenue by entity, programme and segments; analyse enrolment and drivers.
  • Review major cost categories and identify savings opportunities.

Job description

Financial Analyst is responsible for supporting the Finance and FP&A function in financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, management reporting, financial analysis, and business performance monitoring.


The role will work closely with various departments and business units to analyse financial and operational performance, identify key variances and trends, and provide meaningful insights to support management decision-making.


The Financial Analyst will also support the development and improvement of financial reporting processes, dashboards, and financial models to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of management reporting.


Responsibilities

A. Financial Planning & Budgeting


  • Support the annual budgeting and financial planning process for the Group and individual business entities.

  • Assist in preparing operating budgets, revenue budgets, cost budgets and CAPEX budgets.

  • Consolidate budget submissions from various departments and cost centre owners.

  • Review budget assumptions and identify significant or unusual movements.

  • Support the preparation of budget presentations and management reports.

  • Assist in uploading and maintaining approved budgets in the relevant budgeting system.

  • Monitor actual performance against approved budgets throughout the year.


B. Financial Analysis & Management Reporting


  • Prepare monthly financial performance reports for management review.

  • Analyse revenue, cost of service, operating expenses, EBITDA, PBT and other key financial indicators.

  • Perform actual vs budget and actual vs prior year analysis.

  • Identify significant variances and investigate the underlying business drivers.

  • Highlight key financial risks, opportunities and areas requiring management attention.

  • Prepare financial analysis and ad-hoc reports requested by management.

  • Support the preparation of management and Board-level financial presentations.


C. Forecasting & Business Planning


  • Support the preparation of monthly and quarterly financial forecasts.

  • Analyse business performance and update financial forecasts based on the latest operational information.

  • Assist in developing financial models and scenario analysis.

  • Evaluate the potential financial impact of business initiatives, pricing changes, student intake changes, cost increases and other operational decisions.

  • Monitor forecast accuracy and recommend improvements where required.


D. Revenue & Cost Analysis


  • Monitor revenue performance by entity, programme, business segment and other relevant dimensions.

  • Analyse student enrolment, student numbers and other operational drivers that impact revenue.

  • Review major cost categories and identify cost trends and potential savings opportunities.

  • Monitor cost centre performance and investigate significant overspending or underspending.

  • Support departments in understanding their financial performance and budget utilisation.

  • Assist in identifying opportunities to improve profitability and operational efficiency.


E. Business Partnering


  • Work closely with departments such as Sales & Marketing, HR, Operations, Academic, Student Affairs, IT and other business functions.

  • Act as a finance business partner by providing financial insights and guidance to non-finance stakeholders.

  • Assist departments in understanding budget requirements, financial performance and cost implications.

  • Challenge assumptions and provide constructive financial input when required.

  • Follow up with departments on significant variances and corrective actions.


F. Financial Dashboard & Data Analysis


  • Maintain and improve financial dashboards and management reporting tools.

  • Support the development of Power BI dashboards and other automated reporting solutions.

  • Ensure financial and operational data used for reporting is complete and accurate.

  • Identify opportunities to automate manual reporting processes.

  • Improve the efficiency, consistency and reliability of financial reporting.

  • Work with IT and system teams to improve financial data integration and reporting capabilities.


Qualifications

Education


  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Data Analytics or a related field.

  • Professional accounting or finance qualification such as ACCA or equivalent would be an advantage.
