Job summary

Jord Malaysia Sdn Bhd is seeking a Foreman to supervise daily fabrication and welding on the shop floor, ensuring safety, quality, and schedule adherence. You will own manpower allocation, monitor productivity, and record daily output.

You will supervise welders, fabricators, fitters and helpers, ensuring work follows approved drawings, WPS, and project requirements. The role requires leadership and hands-on shop floor experience.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5–8 years of relevant experience in fabrication and welding.
• Ability to read fabrication drawings and welding details.
• Knowledge of WPS, welding parameters, preheat/interpass temp and consumables.

Responsibilities

• Review the daily production plan and allocate manpower according to workload.
• Monitor fabrication, welding and ensure WPS compliance with drawings and project requirements.
• Maintain daily output records and record planned vs actual quantities.
• Coordinate with Production, QC, Planning, Stores and Maintenance as needed.
• Ensure safety, PPE compliance and proper housekeeping on site.
• Record material usage and report shortages before they impact production.

Job description

To supervise and control daily fabrication and welding activities at the shop floor, ensuring work is carried out safely, according to approved drawings, WPS and project requirements, and within the planned schedule.

The Foreman shall take ownership of manpower allocation, work monitoring, productivity, quality, and daily output recording, and provide timely updates to Production Management.

2. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

A. Daily Work Planning & Manpower Allocation

• Review the daily production plan, drawings, WPS and work priorities before starting work.
• Allocate welders, fabricators, fitters and helpers according to workload and skill requirements.
• Ensure sufficient manpower and materials are available before starting each activity.
• Organise work to achieve the planned daily output.
• Coordinate with Production, QC, Planning, Stores and Maintenance whenever required.
• Ensure workers understand their assigned jobs and expected output.

B. Fabrication & Welding Monitoring

• Closely monitor fabrication, fit-up and welding activities at the shop floor.
• Ensure welding is carried out in accordance with approved WPS, drawings and applicable project requirements.
• Monitor essential welding parameters, preheat/interpass temperature, consumables and welding sequence.
• Ensure proper fit-up, alignment, dimensions, root gap, bevel and cleanliness before welding.
• Monitor welders' working methods and immediately correct deviations.
• Ensure repair welding is properly identified, controlled and attended by the responsible welder/team.
• Follow up on bottlenecks, rework, repair and production delays.

C. Production Output & Performance Recording

• Maintain daily output records for each welder/fabricator and work activity.
• Record planned quantity versus actual completed quantity.
• Record working hours, manpower, machine utilisation and major downtime.
• Identify workers or activities falling below the planned output and take immediate corrective action.
• Submit accurate daily production reports to the Production Manager / Supervisor. Prevent repeated defects by identifying the root cause and improving the working method.
• Ensure completed work is properly identified and traceable.

E. Safety

• Ensure all workers follow company HSE requirements, PPE requirements and safe working practices.
• Monitor safe lifting, grinding, welding, gas cutting and material handling activities.
• Stop unsafe work immediately and report the issue to the responsible person.
• Ensure welding machines, cables, gas hoses, regulators and other equipment are in safe condition.
• Maintain good housekeeping in the work area.

F. Equipment & Material Control

• Monitor availability and condition of welding machines, welding cables, grinders, fixtures, jigs and other tools.
• Coordinate with Maintenance for equipment breakdowns.
• Ensure welding consumables are properly controlled and available.
• Inform Production/Stores of material shortages before they affect production.
• The Foreman is responsible for ensuring that actual output is recorded every day and that any shortfall is explained with clear reasons and corrective action.

3. REQUIRED COMPETENCY

• Minimum 5–8 years of relevant experience in fabrication and welding field.
• Good knowledge of welding processes.
• Ability to read fabrication drawings and welding details.
• Knowledge of WPS, welding parameters, preheat/interpass temperature and welding consumables.
• Good understanding of fabrication sequence, fit-up, welding and dimensional control.
• Able to supervise and control a team of welders, fabricators, fitters and helpers.
• Able to identify welding/fabrication problems and take immediate corrective action.
• Basic computer skills for production reporting and record keeping.
• Good communication and leadership skills.
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned production areas. Take corrective action within his authority.
• Escalate unresolved issues promptly.
• Ensure proper handover at the end of each shift.

Shift: Day / Night Shift as required

The position is not limited to supervising workers; the Foreman is expected to actively monitor, control, record and improve production performance.
