Kanry Search is seeking an Environmental Manager to lead the environmental function across our manufacturing operations in Malaysia. You will ensure compliance with DOE requirements, Environmental Quality Act, and customer standards while driving continuous improvement.
You will manage pollution control systems, CAPEX projects, ISO 14001, and ESG initiatives, develop KPIs, and lead an environmental team through audits and regulatory submissions.
The Environmental Manager is responsible for leading the Environmental function and ensuring compliance with DOE requirements, Environmental Quality Act, customer standards and corporate policies.
The role oversees environmental operations, pollution control systems, sustainability initiatives and continuous improvement projects to enhance environmental performance, manage risks and support business sustainability.
The successful candidate will drive ISO 14001 effectiveness, resource optimisation, regulatory compliance and environmental improvement initiatives while developing the Environmental team.
Lead the Environmental function to ensure compliance with DOE requirements, Environmental Quality Act, customer standards and applicable environmental regulations.
Act as the key liaison with DOE, regulatory authorities, auditors, customers and external stakeholders on environmental matters.
Develop and maintain environmental procedures, governance frameworks, compliance monitoring systems and legal registers.
Manage environmental submissions, applications and reporting requirements, including:

OER
Stack Emission Monitoring
Environmental licences and permits
Track environmental compliance status and ensure timely closure of audit findings and regulatory gaps.
Oversee environmental facilities and systems, including:
RODI System
Scrubber System
Air Pollution Control System (APCS)
Scheduled Waste Management System
Establish operational controls, monitoring parameters and performance indicators to ensure system effectiveness.
Lead troubleshooting, root cause analysis and corrective actions for environmental system issues.
Ensure proper management of scheduled waste handling, storage, disposal and compliance requirements.
Develop preventive maintenance strategies to improve reliability and minimise downtime of environmental equipment.
Lead environmental improvement projects from concept, design, implementation through commissioning.
Manage projects involving pollution control upgrades, wastewater treatment improvements, facility expansion and environmental infrastructure enhancement.
Review engineering designs, P&ID drawings, technical specifications and vendor proposals.
Manage environmental CAPEX projects including budgeting, vendor evaluation, contractor coordination and project execution.
Collaborate with Production, Facilities, Maintenance and Engineering teams to ensure operational changes meet environmental requirements.
Drive implementation and continual improvement of ISO 14001 Environmental Management System.
Conduct Environmental Aspect & Impact (EAI) assessments and establish improvement plans.
Develop environmental KPIs, targets and performance monitoring systems.
Support ESG reporting and sustainability initiatives.
Promote environmental awareness and strengthen environmental culture across the organisation.
Identify and implement environmental best practices and emerging technologies.
Lead, coach and develop the Environmental team to ensure competency and operational effectiveness.
Manage team performance, training, competency development and succession planning.
Establish department objectives, improvement plans and budgets.
Collaborate with Production, Facilities, Maintenance, Quality, EHS, Procurement and Finance teams to integrate environmental requirements into business operations.
Present environmental performance, compliance status, risks and improvement initiatives to management.
Support customer audits, corporate assessments and environmental reviews.
Maintain competency as an Environmental Competent Person.
Support emergency response activities and environmental incident investigations.
Review environmental-related procurement requirements, purchase requests and inventory needs.
Participate in cross-functional improvement projects.
Benchmark environmental practices and technologies to improve environmental performance.
Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science or related disciplines.
Minimum 8 years of experience in environmental management within a manufacturing environment.
Minimum 3 years of supervisory or managerial experience leading an Environmental / EHS team.
Strong hands-on experience in:
Environmental compliance and DOE regulations
Environmental Quality Act
Wastewater treatment systems
Pollution control systems
Scheduled waste management
Environmental audits and regulatory submissions
Experience managing environmental CAPEX projects, vendor coordination, system optimisation and cross-functional projects.
Experience in an MNC manufacturing environment will be an added advantage.
Strong leadership, analytical and stakeholder management skills.
Candidates with the following certifications will be highly preferred:
CePIETSO – Certified Environmental Professional in Industrial Effluent Treatment System
CePIETSO-BP / PCP
CePSWaM – Certified Environmental Professional in Scheduled Waste Management
ISO 14001 Environmental Management System Lead Auditor / Internal Auditor
Air Pollution Control System / Stack Emission Competency Certification
