Job summary

GS Paperboard & Packaging Sdn Bhd, a leading paper and packaging manufacturer in Malaysia, is seeking a motivated Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to support reliability, performance, and continuous improvement of plant equipment.

You will plan and execute maintenance, troubleshoot faults, manage spare parts, and mentor technicians while ensuring safety and ISO 9001 standards are met.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Fresh graduates encouraged to apply.
• 1–3 years of experience in manufacturing or heavy industries preferred.
• Strong mechanical troubleshooting and hands-on maintenance skills.
• Knowledge of rotating equipment, pumps, gearboxes, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
• Familiarity with SAP PM or CMMS is a plus.
• Good analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Execute preventive and corrective maintenance to ensure reliability and performance.
• Troubleshoot mechanical equipment failures and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime.
• Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to improve availability.
• Monitor maintenance history to identify improvement opportunities.
• Coordinate maintenance schedules and ensure timely completion of works.
• Optimize spare parts inventory for cost efficiency and readiness.
• Support and supervise maintenance technicians during troubleshooting and execution.
• Monitor maintenance expenditure and ensure effective resource use.
• Maintain maintenance documentation in line with ISO 9001 and standards.
• Support testing of fire-fighting systems, including diesel engine-driven pumps.
• Participate in plant shutdowns and turnaround activities as needed.
• Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and company policies.

Job description

We are seeking a motivated and hands-on Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to support the reliability, performance, and continuous improvement of plant equipment. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and executing maintenance activities, troubleshooting equipment issues, and ensuring machinery operates efficiently to support production targets.

Key Responsibilities

Execute preventive and corrective maintenance activities to ensure optimum equipment reliability and performance.

Troubleshoot mechanical equipment failures and implement effective corrective actions to minimize downtime.

Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to improve equipment availability and extend asset lifespan.

Monitor equipment performance and maintenance history records to identify improvement opportunities.

Coordinate maintenance schedules and ensure timely completion of maintenance works.

Optimize spare parts inventory while maintaining cost efficiency and operational readiness.

Support and supervise maintenance technicians in troubleshooting and maintenance execution.

Monitor maintenance expenditure and ensure effective utilization of resources.

Maintain maintenance documentation in compliance with ISO 9001 requirements and company standards.

Support the maintenance and testing of fire-fighting systems, including diesel engine-driven fire pumps.

Participate in plant shutdown and turnaround activities as required.

Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and company policies at all times.

Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent from a recognized university.

Fresh graduates are encouraged to apply.

Candidates with 1-3 years of experience in manufacturing or heavy industries will have an added advantage.

Strong mechanical troubleshooting and hands-on maintenance skills.

Knowledge of rotating equipment, pumps, gearboxes, hydraulics, and pneumatics.

Familiarity with SAP PM or other CMMS systems is an added advantage.

Good analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Proficient in English & Mandarin proficiency is an added advantage.
