Job summary

Starway International Sdn Bhd in Malaysia is seeking an ELV Engineer to lay cables, route wiring, and terminate ELV systems for on-site hardware such as sensors, CCTV, and control boxes.

You will read schematics, perform safety checks, and collaborate with project teams to test continuity and basic communications on sensors, controller boards, and networks.

Qualifications

• Diploma or degree in electrical engineering or related field.
• 1–3 years of hands-on ELV engineering experience.
• Proficient in schematic-based wiring and soldering.
• Familiar with EMC/EMI cable routing standards.
• Knowledge of RS485/RS232/Modbus/CAN bus is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lay cables, pull wiring through conduits, and terminate distribution boxes for ELV systems.
• Mount and route on-site hardware neatly (sensors, CCTV, E-Stop, power modules).
• Read electrical schematics and wire PCBs, motor drivers, and power modules.
• Perform pre-power-up safety checks using meters to verify insulation and voltages.
• Collaborate with project teams to test signal continuity and communication on sensors and controllers.
• Set up power distribution, E-Stop loops, and fuse protection for test benches.
• Troubleshoot hardware issues and manage spare parts requests.
• Maintain testing logs and assist with site handovers and trial runs.
• Adhere to site safety protocols for low-voltage work.

ELV Engineer (Extra-Low Voltage Engineer)

Lay cables, pull wiring through conduits, crimp connectors/terminals, and terminate distribution/junction boxes for low-voltage and extra-low-voltage (ELV) systems (e.g., 5V, 12V, 24V, 48V).

Handle the physical mounting, securing, and neat cable routing of on-site hardware (e.g., sensors, CCTV cameras, emergency stop switches, power supply modules, control boxes).

Hardware Wiring & Electrical Safety Testing:

Read and interpret electrical schematics and ELV construction drawings accurately; independently wire PCBs, motor drivers, and power modules.

Conduct pre-power-up safety checks using multimeters, clamp meters, and current-limiting DC power supplies to verify insulation, short circuits, polarity, and correct voltage levels, ensuring personal and equipment safety.

Collaborate with project teams and software/algorithm engineers to physically connect and run basic signal continuity/communication tests on industrial sensors (e.g., RS485/Modbus), controller boards, and communication buses.

Set up power distribution, hardware emergency stop (E-Stop) safety loops, and fuse protection circuits for low-voltage test benches.

Troubleshooting & Maintenance:

Troubleshoot and rapidly repair hardware issues—such as wire aging, damage, cold solder joints, or loose connections—on smart devices (e.g., AGVs/smart vehicles, robotic dogs, drones, automated site equipment).

Perform routine hardware inspections and preventive maintenance; manage and submit requests for spare parts procurement.

Site Management & Testing Support:

Strictly adhere to site low-voltage health and safety protocols; maintain detailed testing and troubleshooting logs.

Support the project team with equipment handovers, site inspections, and trial run operations.

Requirements

Education:

Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation, or a related field.

Experience & Skills:

1-3 years of hands-on experience in ELV engineering, security systems, M&E installation, or site equipment maintenance (outstanding fresh graduates are welcome to apply).

Hands-on Craftsmanship: Proficient in schematic-based wiring, soldering, and wire harness/terminal crimping; skilled in using standard electronic testing tools (e.g., multimeters).

Wiring Standards: Familiar with anti-interference (EMC/EMI) cable routing standards; maintains good cable management practices (cable ties, clear labeling, sleeving).

Communication Protocols: Basic working knowledge of industrial communication interfaces (e.g., RS485, RS232, Modbus, CAN bus), including proper pinout wiring (A/B lines, GND) and basic baud rate settings.

Nice-to-Haves:

Valid Malaysia-recognised electrical safety certificate or Wireman license is a strong plus.

Prior wiring and maintenance experience with drones, robotics, PLCs, or industrial control cabinets is an advantage.
