About the role
Norman Process Oils Malaysia Plant Sdn Bhd is seeking an experienced Electrical Instrumentation Technician to join our team in Johor. This is a full-time position that will play a crucial role in maintaining and optimising the electrical and instrumentation systems within our oil and gas production and refinement facility.
Work Schedule
The working schedule operates on a rotational basis:
2 months on a standard schedule: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with a 1-hour lunch break; weekends off.
3 months on a shift schedule: 4 days working followed by 4 days off.
Employees may be required to work beyond normal hours, on rest days, or public holidays during emergency breakdowns, with overtime compensation provided.
What you'll be doing
Perform routine preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance on electrical and instrumentation equipment according to approved schedules and work orders.
Monitor and maintain low-voltage (LV) and medium-voltage (MV) electrical distribution systems, switchboards, motor control centers (MCC), generators, and protection systems.
Carry out electrical troubleshooting and repair of faults on motors, lighting, control panels, and power supply systems.
Carry out calibration, verification, and testing of instruments such as pressure transmitters, level transmitters, flow meters, temperature elements, and control valves.
Conduct safe switching, isolation, and restoration of electrical supply in compliance with Suruhanjaya Tenaga (ST) regulations and internal LOTO procedures.
Performthe installation, termination, and commissioning of new electrical and instrumentation devices.
Troubleshoot and repair faults on electrical circuits, switch-gear, motors, and control systems.
Ensure electrical installations are safe, compliant with statutory requirements (e.g., wiring rules), and documented properly.
Support in the execution of annual shutdown activities, including dismantling, inspection, replacement, and re-installationof E&I devices.
Maintain accurate maintenance records including calibration certificates, instrument tags/stickers, and service reports.
Respond to electrical emergencies and breakdowns, ensuring safe and timely restoration of power or equipment functionality.
Ensure proper use and maintenance of tools, test equipment, and PPE in accordance with safety standards.
Work in compliance with all safety regulations and permit-to-work procedures, including Lockout/Tag-out(LOTO).
Assist contractors during project or maintenance work and ensure work is done to standard.
Support the E&I Supervisor in updating maintenance schedules and reporting job completion status.
Communicate any abnormal equipment condition or unsafe act/condition to the supervisor immediately.
Follow instructions from E&I Supervisor and cooperate with other departments (e.g., Utilities, Mechanical) as required.
What we're looking for
Minimum 5 years' experience as an Electrical Instrumentation Technician in the oil and gas industry
Formal qualifications in electrical/instrumentation engineering or a related technical discipline
Strong understanding of electrical systems, instrumentation, PLC programming, and SCADA systems
Proven ability to read and interpret electrical and instrumentation diagrams
Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills
Proficient in the use of testing and calibration equipment
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Good communication skills and attention to detail
