Job summary

SUNLINK ENGINEERING SDN BHD in Kulai, Johor, seeks a Drafter (Metal Works) to prepare and modify 2D and 3D technical drawings for metal fabrication projects, supporting Engineering and Production teams.

You will produce drawings for mild steel, stainless steel, structural steel, and sheet metal works, coordinate with workshop teams, and ensure accuracy and up-to-date revisions.

Proficiency in AutoCAD and understanding of fabrication processes plus ability to read complex drawings are essential.

Qualifications

• Diploma or degree in mechanical engineering or CAD drafting.

Job description

The Drafter (Metal Works) is responsible for preparing and modifying 2D and 3D technical and fabrication drawings for metal fabrication projects. The role supports the Engineering and Production teams by producing accurate and practical drawings for fabrication, cutting, bending, welding, and assembly.

The Drafter will work closely with the Engineering, Project, Production, and Workshop teams to ensure drawings meet customer requirements and are suitable for actual fabrication.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Drafting & CAD

Prepare and modify 2D and 3D drawings using AutoCAD or other relevant CAD software.

Prepare fabrication, production, assembly, cutting, and bending drawings.

Convert customer drawings and sketches into detailed CAD drawings.

Review drawings, dimensions, specifications, and project requirements.

Prepare detailed drawings for mild steel, stainless steel, structural steel, and sheet metal works.

Prepare cutting layouts, flat patterns, and fabrication details where required.

Add dimensions, material specifications, tolerances, welding symbols, and other relevant details.

Make drawing revisions based on engineering, customer, or production requirements.

Ensure all drawings are prepared according to the latest approved revision.

Metal Fabrication Support

Prepare drawings suitable for actual workshop fabrication.

Work closely with welders, fitters, fabricators, and machine operators.

Provide clarification on dimensions, materials, cutting, bending, welding, and assembly details.

Assist the production team in resolving drawing and dimensional issues.

Review workshop feedback and update drawings when necessary.

Assist in checking completed fabricated items against approved drawings.

Prepare cutting drawings and layouts for CNC laser, plasma, and other cutting processes.

Prepare bending drawings showing dimensions, bend angles, and relevant details.

Prepare DXF or other required CAD files for CNC cutting where applicable.

Coordinate with CNC programmers and machine operators to ensure drawings are suitable for production.

Drawing Control

Maintain proper records of drawings, revisions, and project documents.

Ensure the latest approved drawings are issued to production.

Maintain CAD files, drawing registers, and revision records.

Update drawings based on approved changes and production feedback.

Prepare as-built drawings when required.

Requirements

Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, CAD Drafting, or a related field.

Experience in drafting, metal fabrication, engineering, or manufacturing is preferred.

Proficient in AutoCAD with good knowledge of 2D and 3D drawing.

Able to read and interpret technical, engineering, and fabrication drawings.

Knowledge of metal fabrication, welding, cutting, bending, and assembly processes.

Experience with mild steel, stainless steel, structural steel, or sheet metal works is an advantage.

Knowledge of CNC cutting and bending is an advantage.

Knowledge of other 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar software is an advantage.

Good attention to detail and accuracy.

Good communication and coordination skills.

Able to work independently and manage multiple drawings.

Willing to work closely with the workshop and production team when required.
