Responsibilities

Director of Machining Operations & Engineering

Our client is a well-established manufacturer serving the semiconductor and advanced manufacturing industry. The company is seeking an experienced Director of Machining Operations to lead the overall manufacturing and plant operations of a high-precision machining facility.

This is a senior leadership position responsible for driving operational performance, manufacturing efficiency, quality, safety, cost control and people development. The successful candidate will lead a multi-functional team and work closely with manufacturing, engineering and supporting functions to achieve plant objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the overall operations of a high-precision manufacturing facility, covering production, machining, engineering and supporting functions.

Oversee CNC machining operations, including production planning, machining processes, programming, setup, troubleshooting and process optimisation.

Drive plant performance across productivity, quality, delivery, cost, safety and operational efficiency.

Lead and develop a team of production managers, supervisors, engineers, technicians and operators.

Establish production priorities, capacity plans and operational schedules to meet customer and business requirements.

Work closely with manufacturing and engineering teams to improve processes, equipment utilisation, throughput and overall manufacturing capability.

Identify operational bottlenecks and implement continuous improvement and Lean manufacturing initiatives.

Ensure compliance with relevant quality, safety, environmental and operational standards.

Oversee workforce planning, recruitment, training, performance management and succession planning.

Monitor operating costs and resource utilisation, working towards agreed financial and operational targets.

Analyse production data and operational KPIs to identify improvement opportunities and implement corrective actions.

Collaborate with planning, supply chain, quality, engineering and other functions to ensure smooth end-to-end manufacturing operations.

Drive a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, safety and operational excellence across the facility.

Provide regular operational updates to senior management and contribute to broader manufacturing strategy.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations, Business or a related discipline.

At least 10 years of manufacturing experience, with significant exposure to machining or precision manufacturing environments.

Minimum 5 years of experience leading manufacturing or plant operations teams.

Strong experience in CNC machining and precision manufacturing processes.

Experience managing multiple manufacturing functions and cross-functional teams.

Strong understanding of Lean Manufacturing, continuous improvement, production planning and manufacturing systems.

Experience working with quality, safety and operational compliance requirements.

Strong commercial and operational understanding, including experience managing budgets, resources and production KPIs.

Excellent leadership, problem-solving and stakeholder management capabilities.

Candidates with experience in semiconductor equipment, precision engineering, aerospace, medical devices or other high-precision manufacturing environments will be considered.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on plant leader who combines strong technical knowledge of machining with proven experience managing a complex manufacturing operation.
