Aleph Labs in Malaysia is seeking an experienced Design & Engineering Project Manager to lead end-to-end delivery across design and engineering for Japan-market projects. You will partner with clients, UX researchers, product strategists, designers, and engineers to ensure high quality, on time, within budget, while creating meaningful user experiences and robust technical solutions.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Design, CS, Engineering, or related field.
5+ years managing digital projects across design and engineering.
Experience in design agencies, digital consultancies, or product teams.
Fluency in Japanese (spoken and written) mandatory.
Experience with Japan-market projects and cultural nuances preferred.
Proficient in UX methods, design thinking, and Agile/Scrum.

Responsibilities

Lead end-to-end delivery across design and engineering engagements.

We are looking for an experienced Design & Engineering Project Manager who is passionate about delivering exceptional digital experiences for the Japan market. This role is responsible for leading the end‑to‑end delivery process—from discovery and research through UX/UI design, engineering development, validation, and handoff. You will partner closely with clients, UX researchers, product strategists, designers, and engineers to ensure every project is delivered with high quality, within timeline and budget, while creating meaningful user experiences and robust technical solutions. You will be working on projects focused on the Japan market for a global consumer brand, driving performance across their social presence and digital assets, including websites. This is a high‑volume, high‑visibility environment where success is measured by tangible impact—your work will be evaluated on how effectively it moves the numbers.

Key Responsibilities

Client & Stakeholder Management

Build trusted relationships with Japan‑based clients and become an extension of their teams. Understand client business objectives, priorities, and operating environments. Facilitate executive discussions, workshops, and strategic planning sessions. Navigate complex stakeholder groups with confidence, empathy, and diplomacy.

Project Delivery & Execution

Own end‑to‑end delivery across design and engineering engagements. Create and manage project plans, timelines, and resource allocation. Coordinate UX Designers, UI Designers, Researchers, Content Designers, Product Strategists, and Engineering teams. Ensure deliverables are completed on schedule and meet quality standards. Manage design reviews, technical reviews, client feedback cycles, and approval processes. Facilitate workshops, ideation sessions, and stakeholder presentations. Identify project risks and resolve blockers impacting delivery. Ensure smooth collaboration between Design, Product, and Engineering during handoff and implementation.

Team Leadership

Lead and mentor multidisciplinary teams across design and engineering. Balance workloads across UX/UI designers and developers. Foster creativity and innovation while maintaining delivery discipline. Promote excellence, collaboration, and accountability across functions.

AI for Productivity

Leverage AI tools to accelerate research synthesis, user journey mapping, content creation, workshop preparation, documentation, and engineering workflow optimization. Use AI to streamline operations while maintaining human‑centred design and technical quality.

Continuous Improvement

Improve delivery playbooks, project frameworks, and operational processes. Standardise best practices and reusable delivery systems across design and engineering. Introduce better project rituals and governance where appropriate. Drive continuous improvement across project management and organisational operations.

Prerequisites

Bachelor’s Degree in Design, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
5+ years managing digital projects across design and engineering.
Experience working in design agencies, digital consultancies, or product development environments.
Strong understanding of UX design methodologies, Design Thinking, Human‑Centred Design, and Agile/Scrum delivery.
Experience managing design and engineering teams, and client stakeholders.
Familiarity with Figma, FigJam, Miro, Jira, Confluence, and engineering collaboration tools.
Excellent presentation and facilitation skills.
Strong understanding of usability testing, design validation, and technical QA.
Experience coordinating engineering handoff and managing technical delivery.
Comfortable using AI tools to improve design and engineering operations.
Fluency in Japanese (spoken and written) is mandatory.
Experience working on Japan‑market projects, with knowledge of local search behaviours, user expectations, and cultural nuances, is highly preferred.
Ability to work effectively in a remote, cross‑cultural environment.
