Job summary

KPJ Selangor Specialist Hospital is seeking a Dietary Services Assistant to process diet orders, assist patients in selecting appropriate meals, and ensure meals are served as ordered. The role involves collaboration with the Dietitian, on-the-job training, and support for catering projects across hospital wards.

The position requires basic education in food handling, strong communication, and teamwork, with on-site work and a focus on food quality and patient satisfaction.

Qualifications

• No prior experience required; on-the-job training provided.
• Experience in hospital dietary services is a plus.
• Familiar with customer service concepts.
• Able to work with different departments.
• Knowledge of food handling and service.

Responsibilities

• Process new diet orders or changes and update accordingly.
• Assist patients in making proper selections according to prescribed diet.
• Check menu against inpatient's diet prescription and adjust as needed; consult Dietitian if unsure.
• Ensure meals are served as ordered after assembly.
• Attend on-the-job training workshops and lectures.
• Prepare food items ensuring quality and quantity.
• Manage transportation of food and supplies; monitor temperatures per guidelines.
• Report kitchen malfunctions to supervisor immediately.
• Inspect food items and equipment regularly.
• Assist with catering project food preparation.
• Any other duties as instructed

DESCRIPTION

To maintain a high standard of food presentation service and hygiene to patients and visitors

JOB DESCRIPTION

Process new diet orders or diet changes as required and update accordingly

• Assist patients in making proper selections according to prescribed diet. Take orders either
• manually or via Mobile Dietary Menu (MDM)
• Check menu against inpatient's diet prescription and do adjustment accordingly. Consult Dietitian if have doubt
• Assist to check each patient's meal at the end of meal assembly process to make sure food is served as ordered
• Attending on-the-job training workshops and lectures
• Prepare food items by ensuring both quality and quantity
• Manage transportation of food and supplies. Ensure temperatures are within specified range as
• according to statutory requirements and recommended approved guidance
• Perform light bookkeeping dutiesReport kitchen malfunctions to superior immediately
• Inspect food items and equipment on a constant basis
• Assist with food preparation services for catering projects
• Any other duties as instructed by the organization

JOB REQUIREMENT

Education:

• Minimum SPM / STPM, Courses in food handling and services or equivalent

Knowledge and Experiences

• No experience required as on-the-job training shall be provided. However, experience in food related industry shall be an added
• Familiarity with any food industry
• Experience in Hospital Dietary Services will be an extra advantage
• Knowledge of customer service related
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across functions
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team and interface with various levels of the organization
