Job summary

Brooks Automation in Malaysia is seeking a detail-oriented Designer/CAD Drafter to support mechanical design and documentation. You will create and refine 3D models and 2D drawings, applying GD&T and ensuring alignment with project requirements.

This onsite role in Pasir Gudang, Johor Bahru, offers exposure to automation and robotics environments, collaboration with engineers, and opportunities to release documentation through Agile PLM while maintaining quality standards.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of CAD drafting/design experience.
• Proficient in Creo Parametric (preferred) or SolidWorks.
• Strong GD&T and mechanical drawing knowledge.
• Experience with Agile PLM (or similar PLM systems).
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Create and maintain 3D CAD models and 2D drawings for mechanical components and assemblies.
• Apply Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) in accordance with ASME Y14 standards.
• Generate assembly drawings, exploded views, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
• Prepare drawing packages suitable for manufacturing, inspection, and assembly.
• Document, revise, and release drawings and related files in Agile PLM.
• Support Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs).
• Identify and resolve design and documentation issues with minimal supervision.
• Collaborate with engineers, manufacturing, and cross-functional teams as needed.
• Ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with internal drafting standards and procedures.
• Any other duties as assigned.

We are seeking a detail-oriented and self-motivated Designer/CAD Drafter to support mechanical design and documentation activities. This role works closely with a Principal Engineer to interpret design intent, understand technical requirements, and translate concepts into accurate 3D models and engineering drawings.

This position is responsible for creating and detailing parts and assemblies, applying proper Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T), generating exploded views, and releasing documentation through Agile PLM. The ideal candidate can clearly understand what is being requested, ask appropriate clarifying questions when needed, and work through technical problems independently with limited day-to-day direction from management or peers.

Work Location: Onsite – Pasir Gudang, Johor Bahru.

Key Responsibilities:

• Create and maintain 3D CAD models and 2D engineering drawings for mechanical components and assemblies
• Apply Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) in accordance with ASME Y14 standards

Required Qualifications:

• 5+ years of experience as a CAD Drafter, Designer, or similar role
• Proficiency in Creo Parametric (preferred) or SolidWorks (acceptable)
• Strong working knowledge of GD&T and mechanical drawing practices
• Experience creating detailed part drawings and complex assembly drawings
• Familiarity with Agile PLM (or similar product lifecycle management systems)
• Ability to work independently and troubleshoot design issues with limited support
• Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy
• Good communication and organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in a manufacturing, automation, or robotics environment
• Knowledge of machined parts, sheet metal, and mechanical assemblies
• Experience supporting production or sustaining engineering teams
