Job summary

Brooks Automation in Malaysia is seeking a detail-oriented Designer/CAD Drafter to support mechanical design and documentation. You will create and detail 3D models and 2D drawings, apply GD&T, generate exploded views and BOMs, and release documentation through Agile PLM.

The role requires collaboration with engineers and cross-functional teams, with onsite work at Pasir Gudang, Johor Bahru. Ideal candidates have 5+ years of CAD experience, proficiency in Creo Parametric (SolidWorks acceptable),

Qualifications

• 5+ years of CAD drafting experience in mechanical design.
• Proficient in Creo Parametric; SolidWorks acceptable.
• Strong GD&T knowledge and drafting standards.
• Experience creating detailed part and complex assembly drawings.
• Familiar with Agile PLM lifecycle management.

Responsibilities

• Create and maintain 3D CAD models and 2D drawings for mechanical components and assemblies.

• Generate assembly drawings, exploded views, and BOMs.
• Prepare drawing packages for manufacturing, inspection, and assembly.

About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented and self-motivated Designer/CAD Drafter to support mechanical design and documentation activities. This role works closely with a Principal Engineer to interpret design intent, understand technical requirements, and translate concepts into accurate 3D models and engineering drawings. This position is responsible for creating and detailing parts and assemblies, applying proper Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T), generating exploded views, and releasing documentation through Agile PLM. The ideal candidate can clearly understand what is being requested, ask appropriate clarifying questions when needed, and work through technical problems independently with limited day-to-day direction from management or peers.

Work Location: Onsite – Pasir Gudang, Johor Bahru.

Key Responsibilities

• Create and maintain 3D CAD models and 2D engineering drawings for mechanical components and assemblies
• Apply Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) in accordance with ASME Y14 standards
• Generate assembly drawings, exploded views, and Bills of Materials (BOMs)
• Prepare drawing packages suitable for manufacturing, inspection, and assembly
• Document, revise, and release drawings and related files in Agile PLM
• Support Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs)
• Identify and resolve design and documentation issues with minimal supervision
• Collaborate with engineers, manufacturing, and cross-functional teams as needed
• Ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with internal drafting standards and procedures
• Any other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience as a CAD Drafter, Designer, or similar role
• Proficiency in Creo Parametric (preferred) or SolidWorks (acceptable)
• Strong working knowledge of GD&T and mechanical drawing practices
• Experience creating detailed part drawings and complex assembly drawings
• Familiarity with Agile PLM (or similar product lifecycle management systems)
• Ability to work independently and troubleshoot design issues with limited support
• Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy
• Good communication and organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in a manufacturing, automation, or robotics environment
• Knowledge of machined parts, sheet metal, and mechanical assemblies
• Experience supporting production or sustaining engineering teams
