Job summary

Sinyi Group is seeking an experienced Design Manager to lead multidisciplinary design coordination in Sabah, Malaysia. The role focuses on ensuring designs meet functional, commercial, construction, quality and operational requirements as projects progress.

The ideal candidate has 8+ years in architectural design or design management for large-scale buildings, with a strong ability to review drawings and coordinate across Architecture, MEP, Structural, and related disciplines.

Qualifications

• Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management or another relevant building‑related discipline.
• Minimum eight years of experience in architectural design, construction or design management for large-scale building projects.
• Experience in hotels, resorts or large integrated developments is highly preferred.
• Strong multidisciplinary design coordination capability.
• Proficient in reviewing and interpreting drawings for at least two disciplines: Architecture, Interior Design, MEP, Structural, Landscape, or Façade.
• Good command of spoken and written Chinese and English.
• Experience with Navisworks, BIM coordination or other design coordination software will be an advantage.
• Good understanding of the complete design process, including Tender, IFC and Shop Drawing stages.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and AutoCAD.

• Identify design clashes, interface issues and construction risks early to prevent issues in construction.
• Review tender, IFC, construction and shop drawings for compliance and constructability.

• Maintain design management tools like the Drawing Register and Design Issue Log.
• Monitor submission, review and issuance status of drawings and design deliverables.
• Chair or participate in Design Coordination Meetings and technical discussions.

We are seeking an experienced Design Manager to join our project team in Sabah, Malaysia. The successful candidate will manage multidisciplinary design coordination and ensure that all design solutions meet the project's functional, commercial, construction, quality and operational requirements.

Key responsibilities

Lead the coordination of Architecture, Interior Design, MEP, Structural, Landscape, Façade and other specialist disciplines.

Proactively identify design clashes, interface issues and construction risks to prevent unresolved matters from being carried forward to the construction stage.

Review tender, IFC, construction and shop drawings for design compliance, coordination, completeness and constructability.

Evaluate design proposals from the perspectives of design intent, budget, programme, construction feasibility, quality and operational requirements.

Coordinate with consultants, contractors, specialist subcontractors, operators and internal stakeholders to resolve multidisciplinary design issues.

Establish and maintain design management tools, including the Drawing Register, Design Issue Log, Design Change Log, RFI/TQ Tracker and Material and Shop Drawing Status Tracker.

Monitor the submission, review, approval and issuance status of drawings, materials, technical queries and other design deliverables.

Ensure that current and approved design information is properly recorded, communicated and made available to the relevant project stakeholders.

Chair or participate in Design Coordination Meetings and other technical discussions.

Develop and drive practical, executable solutions for major design issues.

Qualifications
