Job summary

Johnson Matthey is seeking a Database Operation Engineer in Malaysia. You will provide day-to-day Level 2 operations support for JM’s Global Database infrastructure, using tools like SolarWinds DPA to analyze performance and maintain security across SQL Server environments.

Key duties include planning, installing, monitoring, troubleshooting, and decommissioning IT services in line with JM standards, plus handling incidents, changes and problem management with a focus on DR/BCP adherence.

Qualifications

• Significant operational experience in Microsoft SQL Server.
• 3-5 years technical experience with Azure SQL environments and related tools.
• Familiarity with PowerShell, VMware, servers, networks, firewalls and backup/DR concepts.
• Awareness of ITIL principles and security best practices.

Responsibilities

• Provide implementation and technical support following JM IT policies.
• Analyze, troubleshoot and implement approved resolutions.
• Monitor environments and respond to service requests, incidents and changes.
• Troubleshoot incidents and maintain a secure systems environment.
• Adhere to and execute the approved BCP/DR process.

Job description

At Johnson Matthey, your work will matter. As a Database Operation Engineer, you’ll join a world leader in platinum group metals with over 200 years of history and innovation. You’ll help tackle the world’s biggest challenges - cutting emissions, powering modern society and enhancing lives - as we continue to apply, refine and recycle metals that matter, for a healthier and more resilient future.

You will provide day to day Level 2 operations support for JM’s Global Database infrastructure and supports activities that requires database support through the use of database performance analysis tools, such as SolarWinds Database Performance Analyzer (DPA).

The role:

• Provide implementation and technical support; including planning, installation, ongoing management, monitoring, troubleshooting, and decommissioning, following operational policies and processes that are compliant with JM IT’s standards.
• Analyze, troubleshoot and implement approved and standardized resolutions.
• Monitor environments; respond to service requests, incidents, change requests, and problem management.
• Troubleshoot incidents and problems as reported by users and maintain a secure systems environment.
• Adhere to and execute the approved BCP/DR process.

Key skills that will help you succeed in this role:

• Significant operational experience in Microsoft SQL Server
• 3-5 years technical experience, Azure SQL environments, Powershell VMware, Server, Network, Firewall, Server, Backup (native/Veeam), Restore, DR, Security is highly desirable, excellent communication skills
• Critical Thinking ability in resolving technical issues,
• Working knowledge of planning, installation, on-going management, monitoring, troubleshooting, and decommissioning of IT services and technologies.
• Good understanding of importance of process compliance and standardization.
• Awareness of ITIL principles.
