Job summary

iSoftStone in Kuala Lumpur is seeking a mid-level Backend/Platform Engineer to strengthen monitoring and data-platform capabilities. You will develop backend services, support observability tooling, and participate in incident response with a focus on reliability and automation.

Ideal candidates have 1–4 years in backend/DevOps roles, experience with Python/Java/Go, and fluent English and Mandarin for cross-border collaboration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
• 1–4 years of experience in backend development, platform engineering, DevOps, SRE, or related roles.
• Basic to intermediate backend experience in Python, Java, Go, or similar.
• Experience with system monitoring, metrics, logging, alerting, or production troubleshooting.
• Able to troubleshoot using logs, metrics and SOPs.
• Good analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Fluent in English and Mandarin for cross-stakeholder communication.

Job description

Responsibilities:

• Monitor system health, service performance, and operational metrics using monitoring and observability tools; support the development and maintenance of monitoring, dashboards, metrics, alerting and related platform components.
• Develop and maintain backend services and platform features related to monitoring and operational capabilities, and contribute to enhancements and continuous improvements within existing systems.
• Support resource requests, allocation, configuration, and monitoring for data platform and infrastructure resources; perform routine maintenance to ensure platform stability and reliability.
• Perform first-line troubleshooting of common platform and infrastructure issues using logs, metrics, monitoring tools, and established SOPs; resolve routine issues where possible and elevate complex or high-impact issues to senior engineers.
• Work with business and technical stakeholders to understand resource requirements, support appropriate configurations, and communicate operational issues and potential risks clearly.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
• 1–4 years of experience in backend development, platform engineering, DevOps, SRE, infrastructure engineering, data platform, or related technical roles.
• Basic to intermediate experience in backend development using at least one programming language such as Python, Java, Go, or similar.
• Experience or familiarity with system monitoring, metrics, logging, alerting, or production troubleshooting.
• Able to troubleshoot technical issues systematically using logs, metrics, monitoring tools, and SOPs.
• Good analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Fluent in both English and Chinese Mandarin communication skills for communication with Mandarin-speaking stakeholders and technical teams.

Good to Have

• Hands-on experience with Prometheus and Grafana, or similar monitoring and observability tools.
• Exposure to data platforms, distributed systems, and large-scale data storage or computing clusters.
• Experience with DevOps, SRE, cloud infrastructure, scripting, or automation.
• Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, or CI/CD.
