Job summary

Businesslist is seeking a Data Engineer (AI) in Kuala Lumpur with strong Python development in data engineering, AI, or ML environments. The role covers hands-on work with OpenAI or Azure OpenAI services, including embeddings, chat completions, and function calling.

You will build LLM-powered solutions using RAG pipelines, AI agents, prompt engineering, and work with vector databases, embeddings, and ETL/ELT pipelines to deliver production AI/ML solutions.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in software or data engineering, with at least 2 years delivering AI/ML in production.
• Strong Python proficiency for data engineering and AI-powered apps.
• Hands-on with Azure OpenAI Service or OpenAI APIs for chat, embeddings.
• Experience building LLM-powered solutions using RAG pipelines and agents.
• Knowledge of vector databases, embeddings, and Python ETL/ELT pipelines.
• Familiarity with cloud AI platforms and API development (Flask, FastAPI).

• Strong Python development experience in data engineering, AI, or machine learning environments
• Hands-on experience with OpenAI or Azure OpenAI services, including embeddings, chat completions, and function calling
• Proven experience building LLM-based applications using RAG, AI agents, and prompt engineering techniques
• Solid understanding of vector databases, embedding models, and ETL/ELT pipelines
• Over 5 years of experience in software engineering or data engineering, with at least 2 years delivering AI/ML solutions in production

The Successful Applicant

A successful Data Engineer (AI) should have:

• Over 5 years of software or data engineering experience, including at least 2 years delivering AI/ML solutions in production environments
• Strong proficiency in Python, with hands-on experience building data engineering and I-powered applications
• Experience working with Azure OpenAI Service or OpenAI APIs, including chat completios, embeddings, and function calling capabilities
• Proven experience developing LLM-powered solutions using RAG pipelines, AI agents, tol integrations, and prompt engineering techniques
• Solid understanding of vector databases, embedding models, and Python-based ETL/ELT dta pipelines
• Experience with cloud AI platforms and API development using frameworks such as FastAI, Flask
• Familiarity with emerging AI technologies such as MCP, agentic AI patterns, LangChain Semantic Kernel, multilingual AI models, or Responsible AI practices would be highly valued
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively aross cross-functional teams and explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• A curious and innovative mindset, balanced with a practical approach towards reliabilty, scalability, and cost-conscious AI solution development
