Job summary

Local Assembly Sdn Bhd, located in Gelang Patah, Johor, is seeking a dedicated Cost Accountant to join our finance team on a full-time basis. You will analyse, track and manage manufacturing costs, helping the company understand its cost structure and drive profitability.

Qualifications

• Diploma in accounting/finance or related field.
• 2–4 years of cost accounting experience in manufacturing.
• Proficiency in Excel and accounting software.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of Malaysian accounting standards and tax regulations.

Responsibilities

• Analysing and allocating manufacturing costs to products, departments and cost centres to ensure accurate product costing.
• Preparing and maintaining cost accounting records, schedules and documentation in compliance with accounting principles and company policies.
• Conducting variance analysis to compare actual costs against standard costs and budgeted amounts, investigating significant discrepancies.
• Assisting in the development and maintenance of cost accounting systems, procedures and internal controls.
• Performing cost-benefit analyses to support management decisions regarding pricing, production methods and capital investments.
• Preparing cost reports and financial statements for management review, highlighting trends and areas for cost reduction.
• Reconciling cost accounting records with general ledger accounts on a regular basis.
• Supporting the annual budget process by providing historical cost data and cost projections.
• Collaborating with operations, procurement and production teams to gather cost information and validate assumptions.
• Assisting with physical inventory counts and reconciliations to ensure accurate inventory valuation.

Local Assembly Sdn Bhd is seeking a dedicated Cost Accountant to join our finance team on a full-time basis in Gelang Patah, Johor. This is a crucial position within our accounting department, where you will be responsible for analysing, tracking and managing the costs associated with our manufacturing and assembly operations. As a Cost Accountant, you will play a vital role in helping the organisation understand its cost structure, improve operational efficiency and make informed financial decisions that drive profitability and business growth.

Key responsibilities

What we're looking for

• A professional qualification or diploma in accounting, finance or a related discipline
• 2-4 years of experience in cost accounting or a similar accounting role, preferably within a manufacturing or assembly environment
• Proficiency in accounting software and spreadsheet applications such as Microsoft Excel
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex cost data and identify trends
• A solid understanding of cost accounting principles, standard costing, job costing and process costing methodologies
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in financial record-keeping and reporting
• The ability to work independently whilst collaborating effectively with colleagues across different departments
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present financial information clearly to non-financial audiences
• Familiarity with inventory management and manufacturing processes is advantageous
• Knowledge of relevant Malaysian accounting standards and tax regulations is beneficial
