Job Description: M&E Construction Manager (Data Hall Fit‑Out)
Position Overview
- Job Title: M&E Construction Manager (Data Center Fit‑Out)
- Project Scope: Data Hall White Space Fit‑Out, Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) Infrastructure, Racking, and Structured Cabling (PMC/Consultant/Main Contractor Oversight)
We are seeking a seasoned and technically rigorous M&E Construction Manager to lead the site execution, coordination, and technical delivery of mission‑critical data hall fit‑out projects. Acting under a Project Management Consultancy (PMC) framework, you will oversee mechanical, electrical, and low‑voltage (ELV) packages, ensuring that high‑density white space infrastructure—including server racking, cable trays, and complex copper/fiber structured cabling is integrated seamlessly with base‑build MEP systems.
The ideal candidate possesses deep domain expertise in mission‑critical environments, stellar subcontractor management skills, and strict adherence to tier‑standard safety and quality protocols.
Key Responsibilities
1. MEP & White Space Fit-Out Execution
- Oversee the end‑to‑end on‑site installation, testing, and commissioning of mechanical and electrical (M&E) systems specific to data halls (e.g., CRAC/CRAH units, hot/cold aisle containment, busways, PDUs, UPS feeds, and grounding/earthing grids).
- Manage white space layout deployment, ensuring exact alignment with architectural and engineering drawings for server cabinets and containment.
- Coordinate complex trade interfaces between heavy MEP infrastructure and ICT/ELV installations.
2. Racking, Cabling, and Structured Cabling Management
- Direct and supervise specialist contractors handling server cabinet/rack bolting, seismic bracing, and cold/hot aisle containment structures.
- Oversee the installation of overhead and raised‑floor cable tray pathways, ladder racks, and fiber‑runner routing systems.
- Ensure stringent quality control over high‑density structured cabling works (both copper CAT6A/CAT7 and Singlemode/Multimode fiber optic trunks, patch panels, MPO/MTP cassettes, and backbone routing).
- Monitor adherence to strict bend‑radius regulations, cable segregation standards (power vs. data), neat cable dressing, labeling hierarchies, and end‑to‑end testing/certification (OTDR and Fluke testing).
3. PMC & Subcontractor Oversight
- Act as the primary on‑site technical authority representing the PMC, managing main contractors and specialized trade subcontractors.
- Review and approve contractor Method Statements, Risk Assessments (RAMS), Material Submissions (MS), and Shop Drawings.
- Track site progress against the master construction schedule, identifying critical‑path bottlenecks related to long‑lead items or trade clashes.
- Facilitate daily/weekly coordination meetings to resolve multi‑trade spatial clashes (using BIM/Navisworks models where applicable).
4. Quality Assurance, Testing, and Commissioning (T&C)
- Drive a "Zero‑Defect" culture through rigorous inspections during pre‑commissioning, Integrated Systems Testing (IST), and load bank testing.
- Manage the identification, tracking, and closure of Non‑Conformance Reports (NCRs) and punch‑list defects prior to handover.
- Ensure comprehensive documentation handover, including as‑built drawings, cable test results, O&M manuals, and warranty certifications.
5. Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE)
- Enforce strict compliance with data center safety rules, including rigorous Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) protocols, hot‑work permits, and working‑at‑height guidelines.
- Conduct regular safety walks, tool‑box talks, and audits to maintain a zero‑incident safety record.
Job Requirements & Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
- Experience: Minimum of 8–10 years of total construction experience, with at least 5+ years specialized in mission‑critical data center fit‑out.
- Technical Expertise:
- In‑depth knowledge of data center power distribution, cooling methodologies, and airflow containment.
- Proven background managing high‑density structured cabling infrastructure (Fiber/Copper) and white‑space racking deployments.
- Ability to read and interpret complex MEP schematics, riser diagrams, single‑line diagrams (SLDs), and ICT/ELV layouts.
- Project Management Skills: Strong grasp of scheduling tools (MS Project / Primavera P6), change management, risk mitigation, and cost control.
- Soft Skills: Exceptional stakeholder management, decisive problem‑solving abilities under tight timelines, and clear communication skills in cross‑cultural environments.
