Job summary

Medilux Oils & Fats Sdn Bhd in Malaysia is seeking a responsible Chemist to manage daily laboratory testing and quality analysis for palm oil, oils, and fats. The candidate will test samples, operate instruments, prepare reports, and ensure accurate test results with minimal supervision.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, with IKMs registration preferred; prior experience in palm oil or related labs is advantageous.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Prepare and test samples according to specifications and methods.
• Monitor oil quality from tanks and receiving areas.
• Report abnormal results to Manager/Director.
• Operate and maintain GC, KF, AAS, AES, UV-Vis spectrophotometer, and balance.
• Calibrate and verify laboratory equipment; troubleshoot when needed.
• Prepare SOPs, test methods, and laboratory reports.

Job description

We are looking for a responsible and experienced Chemist to manage daily laboratory testing and quality analysis, particularly for palm oil, oils and fats. The Chemist will be responsible for sample testing, laboratory equipment, chemicals, SOPs, laboratory reports and maintaining accurate test results. The candidate should be able to work independently with minimum supervision and communicate well with the Manager and Director.

Key responsibilities

Prepare and test samples according to the required specifications and test methods, including Free Fatty Acid (FFA), Moisture, DOB, Impurities, Iodine Value, Peroxide Value, Colour and other oil and fats testing as required

Monitor the quality of oil samples collected from tanks, loading areas, receiving areas and other sampling points

Check and report abnormal or out-of-specification results to the Manager and Director

Operate and maintain laboratory instruments such as Karl Fischer, Gas Chromatography (GC), AAS, AES, DOBI / UV-Vis Spectrophotometer, and Analytical Balance

Perform calibration and verification of laboratory equipment

Carry out basic troubleshooting when equipment has problems and arrange servicing with suppliers or engineers when required

Prepare and update laboratory SOPs, product specifications and test methods

Prepare standard solutions, reagents and solvents and maintain an updated chemical inventory

Keep the laboratory clean, organised and safe, manage chemical waste and sample disposal properly, and follow laboratory safety procedures

Prepare accurate laboratory reports and test results and maintain proper records for samples, testing, calibration, chemicals and equipment

About you

Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Applied Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry or a related field

Registered Chemist with the Institute of Chemistry Malaysia (IKM) is highly preferred

Experience in palm oil, oils and fats, oleochemical, food, chemical or related laboratory work is an advantage

Experience with GC, Karl Fischer, AAS/AES and DOBI/UV-Vis is preferred

Knowledge of laboratory testing, calibration and method validation

Good analytical and problem-solving skills

Able to work independently with minimum supervision

Responsible, accurate and detail-oriented
