HOSPITAL UNIVERSITI TUNKU ABDUL RAHMAN is seeking a Biomedical Equipment Engineer to ensure MOH and MDA 2012 guideline compliance for all hospital devices. You will promptly respond to breakdowns across OT, ICU, and wards, perform PPM/calibration/EST, and manage asset inventory including new arrivals and decommissioned assets.

You will schedule and audit PPMs, monitor vendor SLAs, conduct root cause analysis, and provide technical briefings and safety training for clinical staff.

Qualifications

  • Meet MOH and MDA 2012 guidelines for medical equipment in private hospital settings.
  • Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns to minimise downtime across OT, ICU, and wards.
  • Perform and monitor planned preventive maintenance (PPM), calibration, and EST.
  • Oversee asset inventory, testing & commissioning of new arrivals, and decommissioning of obsolete assets.
  • Schedule, monitor, and audit PPM/calibrations by internal teams or vendors.
  • Evaluate vendor SLAs, review maintenance contracts, and source parts efficiently.
  • Investigate failure trends and perform root cause analysis for incidents.
  • Provide technical briefings, safety training, and user guidance to clinical staff.
  • Participate in on-call rotation for emergencies or critical equipment breakdowns.

Responsibilities

Job description

Ensure all hospital medical equipment complies with Malaysian Ministry of Health (MOH) standards, MDA 2012 guidelines, and private hospital licensing requirements.

Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns across clinical areas (OT, ICU, Wards) to ensure minimal downtime of medical devices.

Perform and monitor routine Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM), calibration, and Electrical Safety Testing (EST) to keep devices functioning safely

Manage the asset inventory system for all biomedical equipment; oversee the Testing & Commissioning (T&C) of new arrivals and safely manage the decommissioning/condemnation of obsolete assets.

Schedule, monitor, and audit Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM) and calibrations carried out by internal teams or third-party vendors.

Evaluate vendor performance, manage service level agreements (SLAs), review maintenance contracts, and source technical spare parts efficiently.

Investigate equipment failure trends, perform root cause analysis for any medical device-related incidents or hazards, and implement corrective actions.

Conduct technical briefings, safety training, and user-operation guidance for doctors, nurses, and clinical staff to minimize user errors.

Participate in the department’s on-call rotation to provide technical consultation during emergencies or critical equipment breakdowns.

Diploma/Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering, Medical Electronics Engineering, or equivalent.

Minimum 2–3 years of working experience in a hospital setting or with a medical device vendor.

Registered with the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) is highly advantageous.

Strong knowledge of electronic circuitry, medical equipment safety standards, and local private healthcare regulatory acts.

Excellent analytical troubleshooting skills, strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with Heads of Departments (HODs) and clinical leaders.
