Barista / Assistant Barista / Customer Service

We are seeking a dedicated Barista /Customer Service professional to join the team at Sang Kancil Roastery in Bukit Mertajam, Penang. This is a full-time position that combines the art of coffee preparation with exceptional customer service. You will be at the heart of our coffee shop operations, crafting quality beverages and creating memorable experiences for our customers. This role is essential to maintaining the high standards and welcoming atmosphere that define our brand.

Key responsibilities

• Preparing and serving a variety of coffee drinks, including espresso-based beverages, pour-overs, and specialty coffees to consistently high standards
• Operating and maintaining espresso machines and other coffee equipment, ensuring proper cleaning and functionality
• Taking customer orders accurately and efficiently, both in-person and potentially through digital ordering systems
• Processing payments and managing the till accurately
• Maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards throughout the coffee bar and customer service areas
• Collaborating with team members to ensure smooth operations during peak and off-peak service times
• Assisting in cold calling, replying WhatsApp, Shopee, Lazada, Tiktok and online/onsite sales

About you

• Previous experience working as a barista, in a café environment, or in customer-facing hospitality roles
• Knowledge of coffee types, brewing methods, and espresso machine operation, or a strong willingness to learn
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a passion for customer service
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, particularly during busy periods
• Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of presentation and hygiene
• Reliability and punctuality, basic skills for handling transactions
• A genuine enthusiasm for coffee and creating positive customer experiences
• Certification in Food Handling and Hygiene is advantageous
• Online marketing and cold calling skills
