Job summary

We are seeking a Backend Software Engineer to design, develop and maintain backend services, APIs and data pipelines powering our products. You will work with IoT integrations, cloud infrastructure and real-time data processing, collaborating with frontend, product and operations teams to turn business requirements into robust technical solutions.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of professional software development experience.
• Strong RESTful API design and secure data handling.
• Proficient in SQL databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL).
• Familiar with NoSQL databases (MongoDB).

Job description

We are looking for a Backend Software Engineer to join our engineering team and help build, maintain and scale the backend infrastructure that powers our products and services. This is an opportunity to work on real-world software systems involving APIs, databases, cloud infrastructure, IoT integrations and real-time data processing.

Key responsibilities

Design, develop and maintain backend services, RESTful APIs and server-side applications for the web and mobile platforms.

Implement backend business logic for journey planning, trip management, electronic ticketing, payment processing and operational reporting.

Design, manage and optimize database structures, queries and data-processing workflows to ensure data integrity and system performance.

Develop and maintain integrations with third-party platforms, GPS tracking devices, ticketing terminals and other IoT systems.

Build background jobs, scheduled tasks and asynchronous processing workflows, including proper error handling and retry mechanisms.

Monitor, troubleshoot and resolve backend issues to maintain system stability, security and availability.

Write clean, maintainable and testable code, supported by appropriate unit and integration tests.

Participate in code reviews, technical discussions and software deployment activities.

Collaborate closely with frontend developers, product managers and operations teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions.

About you

Minimum 2 years of professional experience in software development, with relevant hands-on experience in backend development.

Solid understanding of RESTful API design, authentication, authorisation and secure data handling.

Good working knowledge of relational databases (SQL), preferably PostgreSQL or MySQL.

Familiarity with NoSQL databases, particularly MongoDB.

Experience using Git and GitHub for version control and collaborative development.

Good understanding of software development principles, data structures, debugging and application performance.

Familiarity with application deployment, server environments and production troubleshooting.

Takes responsibility for assigned tasks and follows through on deliverables.

Can work independently, troubleshoot problems and find practical solutions.
