Job summary

Randstad Malaysia is looking for a Backend Developer in Kuala Lumpur. The successful candidate will design and maintain scalable backend services using Python, and work with frontend engineers and product teams to ensure seamless integration of user-facing elements with server-side logic.

They will also optimize database performance, conduct code reviews, and participate in CI/CD processes. The position requires strong experience with Python frameworks, RESTful APIs, and database management.

Key Responsibilities

• Backend Development: Design, develop, and maintain robust, scalable, and testable backend services and APIs using Python.
• Architecture & Design: Contribute to database schema design, system architecture, and technical documentation.
• Performance Optimization: Identify bottlenecks, optimize queries, and ensure low-latency, high-availability services.
• Collaboration: Work closely with frontend engineers to integrate user-facing elements with server-side logic, and collaborate with product teams to refine requirements.
• Testing & Code Quality: Write clean, readable, and maintainable code. Implement unit and integration tests to ensure high code coverage and reliability.
• CI/CD & Deployment: Participate in code reviews and contribute to modern DevOps practices for smooth, automated deployments.

Requirements

• Experience: 3 years of professional experience in backend development using Python.
• Frameworks: Strong proficiency with at least one major Python web framework (e.g., Django, FastAPI, or Flask).
• APIs: Solid experience building and consuming RESTful APIs (GraphQL experience is a plus).
• Databases: Proficiency with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and writing/optimizing SQL queries.
• Tools: Strong command of Git for version control.
• Testing: Experience writing tests using frameworks like pytest or unittest.

Nice to Have

• Experience with asynchronous programming in Python (asyncio, Celery).
• Familiarity with NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Redis) for caching and data storage.
• Basic understanding of containerization (Docker) and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
• Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment.
