Job summary

Prokhas Sdn Bhd is seeking a backend engineer to build and maintain event-driven services for government IT web applications. You will work with product managers, engineers, designers, and stakeholders to deliver scalable, reliable systems.

Join a cross-functional team, participate in code reviews and production support, and help improve performance while keeping security and quality top of mind. This role offers exposure to cloud, APIs, and modern backend patterns in a government-facing context.

You will be part of a cross-functional team working closely with product managers, engineers, designers, and stakeholders to deliver impactful solutions. This role offers the opportunity to design and build systems at scale, improve system performance and reliability, and directly contribute to how digital services are delivered and maintained.

What you’ll do

Build and maintain event-driven backend services

Collaborate on domain modeling and service design

Write automated tests to keep systems reliable and maintainable

Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and production support

Join a shared on-call rotation to support backend services in production, with escalation and support from the team

What we’re looking for

Experience with statically typed languages and building backend services in at least one of the listed languages

Familiarity with asynchronous or event-driven systems

Cares about code quality, testing, and long-term maintainability

Comfortable participating in on-call rotations and handling production issues collaboratively

Comfortable working in a team that values discussion and feedback

Nice to have

Experience designing and building scalable APIs (REST, GraphQL)

Familiarity with microservices or event-driven architectures

Familiarity with domain-driven design (DDD) concepts

Experience with database design and optimization (SQL and/or NoSQL)

Understanding of system performance optimization (caching, concurrency, load handling)

Experience with automated testing (unit, integration, end-to-end)

Exposure to observability tools (monitoring, logging, tracing) such as Prometheus or Grafana

Experience with cloud infrastructure and deployment (e.g. AWS, Google Cloud Platform)

Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices

Understanding of security best practices (authentication, authorization, data protection)

Interest in system design and product thinking beyond just implementation

Prokhas Sdn Bhd is a private limited company wholly-owned by Minister of Finance, Incorporated (MOF Inc.) initially established to manage the residual assets of Danaharta after it closed its chapter on 31 December 2005. Danaharta was a success story on its own, where it had managed to achieve its NPL recovery mission during the Asian financial crisis and further assist to re-energise Malaysia’s financial sector. Prokhas was then entrusted to continue Danaharta’s work and maximise the recovery value of the residual assets.
