Job summary

VHR Consultancy in Malaysia is seeking an Automation Engineer to design and deliver electrical panels and control systems for end-to-end machine projects. You will liaise across Engineering, Sales, Project, Purchasing, Production and Aftersales to ensure robust, cost-efficient solutions from concept through FAT and site commissioning.

Key responsibilities include leading design, task breakdown, startup planning, BOM accuracy, control architecture, PLC programming, HMI, and on-site support.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electricals & Electronics Engineering or related field.
• At least 10 years of experience in OEM or maintenance.
• Strong knowledge of electrical circuit design and standards.
• Proficient in English (written and spoken).
• Analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to read electrical diagrams and process flow charts.
• Knowledge of PLC programming (ladder, function block, etc.).
• Self-motivated, creative and proactive with good teamwork.
• Willing to travel overseas as needed.

Responsibilities

• Lead machine electrical panel design & automation from start to end of engineering process.
• Break down engineering tasks among allocated resources.
• Prepare machine startup & testing planning for FAT date.
• Carry out electrical circuit design and justify with calculations.
• Select and size electrical components with calculations and docs.
• Ensure electrical diagrams & BOMs are completed on schedule.
• Generate new control system architecture when required.
• Generate new machine feature control sequences when required.
• Review and update Electrical BOMs.
• Prepare machine programs, control system, safety, and HMI per project.
• Startup machine, program testing, troubleshooting on production floor.
• Support machine installation and commissioning at site.
• Update PLM with diagrams after FAT.
• Prepare site installation guides for remaining work after FAT.
• Support URS review and budget costing during presales.
• Draft SOPs and work instructions for electrical designs.
• Provide technical support to Production and Aftersales.
• Maintain design and program databases for reuse.
• Lead Continuous Improvement projects as assigned.
• Participate in cross-functional process improvements.

About the role Automation Engineer

requires the incumbent to design best possible solutions for the end-customer on a design platform based on best cost, price and ergonomic solutions from conceptual ideas until full completion of the machine. Acting as the link between Engineering, Sales, Project, Purchasing, Production and Aftersales departments.

Responsibilities

• To lead machine electrical panel design & automation works from Start till the End of engineering process.
• To break down engineering tasks among the allocated resources for each machine as when required.
• To prepare machine startup & testing planning to suite machine FAT date.
• To carry out electrical circuit detail design and able to justify the design with calculation and other design basic.
• To select and size appropriate electrical components to suite project requirement with engineering calculation and supporting document.
• To ensure electrical diagrams & BOMs are completed within allowable time schedule.
• To generate new control system architecture as when required.
• To generate new machine feature control sequence flow chart as when required.
• To review and ensure Electrical BOMs are accurate and updated all the time.
• To prepare machine program, control system, safety program and HMI program as per project requirement.
• To startup machine, program testing, troubleshooting and fine tuning in production floor as per planning.
• To support machine installation and commissioning at site as when required.
• To update and compile electrical diagrams & information into PLM after FAT.
• To prepare machine site installation guide for any leftover electrical & automation works after FAT.
• To support presales User Requirement Specification (URS) review and budget costing as when required.
• To initiate and prepare standard operating procedures and work instructions for electrical circuit designs and machine control system.
• To provide technical support to Production department on engineering issues and to troubleshoot customer issues with Aftersales department.
• To create, enhance and maintain a pool of electrical design database and standard program database that could be used as when required for other projects.
• To lead a working group in the Continuous Improvement Project and report its progress as when assigned.
• To participate in process improvement activities that promotes business excellence through cross functional activities, in collaboration with other departments.
• To discuss with and manage customers’ expectations
• To support customers remotely and at site on engineering, upgrades & troubleshooting of customer issues.
• To coordinate internally and externally with customers on installation and upgrading plans.
• To carry out any other duties that maybe assigned to you by the management from time to time.

Requirements

• Must be highly experienced in developing machine electrical panel and control system from conceptual ideas until full completion of machine with full aid of engineering calculations.
• Has a bachelor’s degree in Electricals & Electronics Engineering or any related qualification with at least 10 years working experience in original equipment manufacturing or maintenance.
• Has good knowledge of electrical circuit design, design standards, techniques, procedures, simulation and standard components selection.
• Has good command of written & spoken English.
• Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Able to read and understand electrical diagram and process flow chart.
• Knowledge of PLC programming such as ladder diagram, function block and etc.
• Self-motivated, creative and pro-active with good teamwork spirit.
• Willing to travel overseas as needed.
