About the role
We are seeking an Audit Assistant or Senior Auditor to join our External Audit team at our Johor Bahru office on a full-time basis. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your career within a dynamic audit environment where you will gain practical experience in external audit engagements across multiple sectors. Depending on your experience level, you will either be working towards building a strong foundation in audit practices or leveraging your existing expertise to lead audit work streams. You will work closely with audit teams and senior professionals, contributing to the successful delivery of audit assignments whilst ensuring compliance with professional standards and regulations.
Key responsibilities
- Performing substantive audit procedures and testing on financial statements, including verification of transactions, account balances, and supporting documentation
- Conducting audit fieldwork at client premises, including gathering evidence and performing audit sampling techniques
- Assisting in the planning and execution of external audit engagements in accordance with International Standards on Auditing (ISA) or relevant local audit standards
- Preparing working papers and audit documentation that are clear, comprehensive, and organised in accordance with firm policies and standards
- Identifying and documenting audit findings, exceptions, and areas of concern for discussion with senior team members
- Assisting in the review of internal controls and evaluating the effectiveness of control environments
- Liaising with client finance teams to obtain necessary information, clarifications, and supporting schedules
- For Senior level: Supervising and coaching junior audit staff on assigned work, providing guidance on audit procedures and quality control matters
- For Senior level: Reviewing working papers prepared by junior team members to ensure accuracy and adherence to audit standards
- Contributing to the preparation of audit reports and management letters highlighting key findings and recommendations
What we're looking for
- Qualification in Accounting or Finance (Bachelor's degree minimum), with professional accounting qualifications such as MIA, ACCA, CPA, or equivalent being highly desirable
- For Audit Assistant: Recent graduate or up to 2 years of audit or accounting experience; for Senior Auditor: minimum 3-5 years of external audit experience
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting standards (MFRS/IFRS), and audit methodologies
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify discrepancies and assess audit risks
- Proficiency in using audit software and accounting tools; experience with audit data analytics is advantageous
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high quality in all work outputs
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present findings clearly to clients and senior management
- Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments and meet tight deadlines
- Professional integrity and a commitment to upholding ethical standards and confidentiality
- For Senior level: Demonstrated ability to manage audit teams, mentor junior staff, and take ownership of audit workstreams
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment
